SINGAPORE: Two local companies will be facing the music in court on Friday for possible music copyright infringements.

The Composers and Authors Society of Singapore (COMPASS) is taking legal action against Mojeu Pte Ltd and Interactive Voice Systems Pte Ltd for selling ringtones and MP3 downloads without relevant authorisation and licences.

It says it is investigating other companies for possible copyright infringement and may consider taking similar legal action.

COMPASS, via agreements signed with songwriters, music publishers and overseas affiliated societies, administers public communication rights, as well as reproduction rights of musical works in the online and mobile environment. - CNA/so

well its not just about learning a lesson...

i'm pretty sure they are seriously stressed for this issue.. everyone wants to make money.. but sometimes we are very much blinded by it.. devil steps into our life everyday! now they are not backed by the devil and the angels cant really help.. i feel sorry for those being sued..

but on another hand.. it is the right way to stop copyright... otherwise we will not have any more nice music to listen to..

imagine u walk into hereen with only a few disc and maybe some music magazines.. that is terribly sad.. imagine one day.. original disc from some boy bands can worth millions because there aint anymore recording artist and no 1 making music... imagine that coming.. wow...

When end-users are being sued, then the general public will start to act proper. In most lawsuits, it is the distributer of copyright materials that was sued. Meaning be it an individual or company basis, once it leaves your hands for money or for free, you are deemed to be infringing the distribution rights.

But now they have something new in recent years, downloading illegally is also not allowed. (Even if you don't distribute it) Reduces the earnings of artistes who spent so much time and effort to put up good music. Until then, illegal downloads are very much here to stay... until it hits the downloaders.

at last they have put a stop to annoying ring tones !!!!
can i sue all of them for the ringtone nuisance

Why don't you sue Nokia Samsung, Motorola, SE etc etc for having this function in their mobile phones?

well, that wouldnt work. coz ppl can reocrd their own voices, sounds, or even originals for their ringtones, so....Nokia and the rest are safe. haha

u shouldn't need to download ringtones, provided u own the mp3.
Heres how:

1) download audacity
2) install mp3 plug in
3) extract the part of the music u want for your ringtone
4) transfer to your phone

Voila free mp3 ringtones.
