Too many gigs?

Okay lah. I think they spent quite a decent bit. Especially, in their bid to build a Singapore version of 'Syndey Opera House' or some arts-based institution aka the Esplanade.

That one is a pretty decent effort, donch choo think?

I just think our market is too small for any sustainability. Any talent development is probably easier for a single artiste than a band. Logistically, simpler as well.

I think the issue lies in the fact that in a local context, there are too many bands that slap together 3 power chords with horribly generic lyrics, call it a song, act like rockstars, and b*tch when nobody gives them shows. I think that there's plenty of quality among the quantity, it's just hidden in the cesspool of rubbish surrounding it.

I totally agree man.....especially those "generic" cover bands......even if you are good, you are still at most just a pub/cover band....

With regards to TS, i think its better to have more gigs than not.

More competition equals to survival of the fittest. sussing out the quality from the garbage with reference to what SherT said. People will have a choice and they will choose to go to a gig that gives them bands they feel is worthy of them forking out that 10-12 bucks to mosh to. that's all there is to it.

Or better still, if its free and the band is awesome, e.g zero sequence at esplanade.

guyrence no one has been punk. u are not been punk, we are not been punk, no one is. Basically, everyone here is telling u to STUDY FIRST. JUST FRICKIN STUDY and when ur done with ur O's at the VERY VERY LEAST then u think about organising a billion gigs a week. u make me think ur really stupid but im sure ur not so just do it.

haha i agree man...but still....even if a cover band is great....they'll still only be remembered as a cover band..... thats the point im trying to make.

Hey seriously man you guys should stop flaming Guyrence if you're doing anything BUT working your asses of organising gigs. Do you know the time and effort involved? In making all the phone calls, meeting the bands, finding the appropriate place, trying to make sure everything will work out fine etc.. It's no easy work doing all that alone and talk about his age being 16 we should give him some credit and ENCOURAGEMENT. Don't you think? And cmon, even IF his gig organising is all about money (which i dont think it is in any case), I don't think he can make much also seeing that most of the gigs he organise are priced at $5 per entry. Even if he does, it wont be much also and i think that he should deserve a little reward for his effort. And maybe everyone is misunderstanding him cos of his English? Haha. Maybe he means well and cant convey it properly/effectively? After all, he's the one organising gigs for us and we're just sitting behind our screens laughing and mocking at his English and complaining about him.

And well, the thing about selling tix to play is inevitable. Cost have to be covered for rental of venues and equipment and stuffs etc. But i feel that the pricing could be brought down a little? I dunno man but i feel like $10-$12 is abit too pricy for a club gig which comes with a free drink that cost only about a dollar. Mayb gig organisers can revise the price a little? Lightening the burden for the audience and for the bands (sometimes i ask my friends pay $12 to watch us play quite ps don't you think? its not that must pay money but its abit too much to ask ur friends to pay to watch you play) haha. Most of us are teens and we don't get much allowance from our parents weekly and $12 is like a quarter or a third of our allowances. I believe the ticket prices could be revised to be more fair for the bands and their audiences.

Having said my 2 cents worth, i just hope everything works out well for the betterment of the local music scene here. CHEERS. =)

Too many good bands, gigworthy, so organizers give them slots. And their friends will turn up. But very few bands are really that great. IMO!

Oh and one more thing: There are too many threads and posts that are purely garbage on this forum.
- Baseless speculation about whether bands are coming to Singapore, the kind of setlist that those bands should play.
- Flaming of other bands and/or Softees.
- Musicians from different schools. Use your own school forum. ( This one is debatable of course, but who wants to enter a thread and have no clue about what's going on)
- And so many more!

Please, stop wasting bandwidth and start helping James save some money.

why dont the bands just jam and invite their friends to watch :X

since the gigs usually only friends come and leave after their set.

I guess meeting other bands and the few people who stay make it worth it :)

bro my intention isnt to flame guyrence. what im trying to do is tell him to concentrate on his o levels before thinking SO DAMN big.

Tim, relax dont be so harsh with the words you use. To be frank, guyrene do have a problem with putting the correct message and he has a bit of articulation problem but i guess its his weakness. Encouragement would be a better choice. And i can guarantree club gigs drinks , organisers are never getting at $1. So i think you should not make a precarious assumption. No clubs will ever give an organiser $1 to begin with.

14 PAGES!!!! WTF!!! all the page seems to be jsut keep repeatin bout the same thing over n over again. you guys not tired meh..... i think i shuld unsubscribe from this thread . haha.
