TONE ZONE or SUPER DISTORTION?? by dimarzios.

guys, im stuck with a choice..

im into heavy stuff like metal,.. likes a reasonable amount of highs(treble)
yup thats about all.. dilemma here.. help!

thanks softies!

Neither...

Double Whammy.

Its like the tonezone but without the ridiculous flubby low end and not so overwound (its 15k or so only).

Discontinued but if you look you can find...

I found this to easily best the tonezone in terms of versatility and overall eq-ing - chunky and bold but well balanced.

That said... I no longer use Dimarzios. ;)

you know, on a serious note, ive seen this vid of a guy covering lamb of god's 11th hour with a schecter into a line 6 vetta, and i say his metale chugga chugga tone was TIGHT and in the ball park of LOG's sound. consider that route.. instead of swapping out pups.

in the DiMarzio realm, i like the Super Distortion the most, i'd describe it as a super PAF: loads of character & definition under high gain/ drive settings, nothing too synthetic sounding.

the Tone Zone is hit & miss, the last time i had it in my Ibanez guitars, they were misses...

Hell, you may even try HAS Sound Viper (just ask Shredcow).

But if your sticking to Dmz... you have a wide choice (i think):
-Super Distortion
-D-Sonic
-D-Activator Bridge
-Double Whammy
-or even X2N.

Double Whammy has an output of ~330mV according to Dimarzio's tech when i asked for it... If that is too low for your need, then it's out.

In today's world of high gain pedals & compressors - forget high gain pups unless you have some... need... for one trick ponies.

Mid-range output is where its at for versatility's sake - you get good sounds, dynamics and still have that bit of oomph where needed.
