to owners of vox ac4 - lacking in bass definition?

hahaha yeah i heard about it...apparently the 7th into it could match that Mesa Dual Rect Tremoverb at Goose's place? I didn't dig it too

I'm gonna try using the amp for recording after the mod....lets wait and see. haha

Smaller drivers may try too hard yes, thats a valid opinion for sure, but its a fact that they will have tighter bass. Cant beat the laws of physics....

I had both tubes. Used a JJ for quite some time before switching to a tungsol.

The JJ was nice...sounded much better than the stock sovtek one imo, which had brittle highs and boomy lows, the JJ sort of evened everything out and the highs became smoother and rounder as well, although in terms of overall volume that dropped quite a bit.

The tungsol was well, a different story. First impression was "shit, why is the amp suddenly so loud?" the amp seemed to be alot of alive, less compressed with a touch of presence and more high end. In other words, it just became more dynamic and 3d sounding (even on cleans).

I like the tungsol for what it does...the jj is nice too, probably better for bedroom players but the tungsol really added that extra three dimensional quality to the amp.... In fact it could probably go toe to toe against most bootek single ended amps in its range.

naviros: Yup, will experiment with more brands of tubes including the Tungsol, the JJ was the only fresh one lying around at home, so I'll use that for now..
