TO ALL THE NEW ORGANISERS INCLUDING EXTREME MUSIC N FROPLAY.

In my professional opinion, there are diffinitely two types of people, one=damn materialistic and grab any chance to secure extra cash. Another one is sincere musicians who loves music passionately and knows Life is meaningless without music.
Now,if we were to analyse the situation properly.
The future is quite insecure if people lose heart halfway. If you know what i mean? 8)

This is quoted from a veteran band, not naming which band.
Read up. I tottally agree with them.

The Singapore Music Scene

The music scene is now improving and there seems to be a lot of "concerts" being organised. Which is also a good start for young musicians. But the ugly thing is, the musicians don't get paid. And the uglier thing is, the musicians have to pay a price to play for a gig. Like selling of tickets, pay for 'administrative' fee. Which is just plain bull-shit! It is said as providing some platform but the real truth, there's really no platform. Come on guys! Unless it's for charity I think there's a real cause but to those money-oriented organisers, it's best that everyone should shun them off! I have been in the music industry for some time and I never 'pay' to perform. The only time I experience to 'pay' to perform, is with SBS where we performed at Gashaus. We have to sell a certain number of tickets in order to perform. I didn't know about it until the actual day which made me furious about the idea. Well, that's gonna be the last time I'll ever do that again. It's either for charity or you get paid!

To all young musicians out there!

If you're still 'paying' to play for a gig, think again. It actually shows how your pride is! Desperate to play? No confidence to get paid for your talent? If that is the case, you might as well not play in a band. Don't waste your time paying for those jamming sessions. Unless, you guys are just plain hobbyists then it's just alright to do so.

t

Yeah lets organise gig
i wish i can organise a GOOD gig maybe Greater.......
i am now saving $$$$$$ so that i can not just organise a gig, but to pay for good equipments for the gig n pay the bands n not even make them sell tix, n also i always dream of bringin BON JOVI to perform here.

yea, i totally agree with the veteran band. its driving young musicians away after their first bad gig experience. i noe of a few bands who do great music, but after one gig where they just manage to meet the quota for the tix selling and not earning a single cent, they just gave up. its really saddening. :( :( :(

yeah, Everything have to change.

Any veterans musicians here?

Can share a tips or two?
and share your experience giging 5-10 years ago? :)

Just for the nice guy who "detests" gashaus: We recently saved the Meza Virs show that got cancelled at Vintage (due to vintage being shut down by the police due to a fight) at our place pretty much rent-free.

And I agree about our sound system. But remember that it has been damaged by people playing over levels and idiots spilling drinks on the speakers multiple times. We are about to renovate (AGAIN) so the system is due for an upgrade

just to inform everyone, posting on an internet forum is going to get you nowhere with this argument. I've put together a proper public forum involving all "Gig-Organisers" (Remember guys, the proper professional term is 'Promoter'). We actually got interesting feedback from representatives of Froplay for starters about the financial reality as well as the cultural climate of the scene.

The next one is due in a couple of weeks once I get the launch of Heart of Darkness out of the way

omg saito ... stop pimping your "public forum" and your "gigs" in every post already. you're getting worse than fgl!

why thankyou mr. Superprog. You understand *gives love*

We DO NOT have zouk-level resources because simply we dont have corporate sponsors coming out our butts.

I personally am considered the most sponsored independent promoter since 1990 by alot of you (yes, alot of people have emailed me reminding me how 'sold out' I am, but dude, how else can you do a big scale show?) - but to convince ONE sponsor to fund ONE show is a nightmare. Let alone a venue that operates on a daily basis.

Remember that the Gashaus team and myself are a bunch of musicians and students ourselves. We do the best with can with whatever resources are allocated to us. The promoters that put on the shows are putting out their neck because we rent out the premises to them while doing the operations.

And while people are complaining about losing 1k etc for doing a show- ALL BUSINESS has risk. What about promoters that make an average of 5k+++? The venue itself has over 25-30k RENTAL every month. (being so near to an MRT and being 6000 sq. ft doesnt help with any rebate whatsoever) Do I complain about that? no. That's part of the liability of running an entertainment outlet. I bet Willy would agree with this.

Anyway. Let's not let this thread outstay its welcome.

I'll be organising the DGO Summit (part 2) on the 2nd tuesday of March as it stands. Please RSVP with your name, contact number and email, organisation (This includes bands!) and topic you wish to discuss :)

Avon bro. Its not 'MY' public forum, its everyones. Anyway, just to annoy you I'm going to pimp it until you give up taking the piss out of it hehehehe.

and yes: getting worse than FGL?

At least I dont say I'm going away and make 10,000 sequels hehehe (Paiseh Farid bro. It was funny)
