Thousands of fans throng Baybeats music festival

question: baybeats is officially the biggest music festival there is in SG. is indie turning into pop music? (since pop music is by nature "popular" music)

we like to think its indie, away from establishment, but its still a part of pop culture, imho.

nonetheless, its really cool to see it a "free for audience" fest all these years. Theres not much of such event at this scale and free. I just wonder how will the turn out be if ever becoming a ticketed event

I <3 Local, But Random Assault Is Not Moshing

I totally am with you on this!
Happened at Singfest too (and those guys thought it was moshing).

the baybeats altogether was preety much awesome, but as mentioned, there are always people who spoil the mood and stuff.

for example some people in the crowd doesnt really go and see the set but rather, more interested in people who are moshing and stuff. i find that preety irritating. it just add unnecessary bulk to the crowd and its not fair to those who are really supporting the set. there isnt really any respect or the band it just proves that they are just there to proudly say "HEY, I WENT TO BAYBEATS AND IT ROCKS" and it just pisses me off.

on a good note, i think moshers now are abit more responsible of their safety and each others. kudos to that.

actually, thinking about it..

random assault IS moshing (slamming and bumping into each other, bouncing & pogo-ing)
assault = crowd killing (punching and kicking in the MOSH pit, head stepping, spin kicks targeted at crowd)
and hardcore dancing = assaulting air (an open pit for you to do it)

Just some 'reference' videos to learn more about moshing and hardcore dancing culture :)
Not forgetting the wall of death!

Don't flame me if you hate movement at a concert! >.< just for educational purposes only.

Well, to answer your question with regards to being an indie music fest, the bands are all unsigned or signed to indie music labels. so by definition.

yes.

Baybeats is still indie.

lol, if you're talking about the strokes, at 11yrs of age, it will be year2003, which make senses, but not the bravery who came out during 2005. lol.

i think you're damn cool cause you listened to the strokes and the bravery when you were in p5. you can come and think what's wrong with me when i play 12:51 on my mp3 ): cause you're too cool and ahead of trends, mr trendsetter

indie turned me off when I first heard it. Some nitwit CD salesman at sembawang recommended franz ferdinand to my mum and she totally didn't consult me when buying a CD for me (she just asked what was popular among youngsters these days). I nearly fainted when I heard it because it just sounded so HORRIBLE (to me at least). Just like the time when I nearly died when a My Chemical Romance CD appeared on my rack.

wtf is wrong with playing an old song? to me, music is like wine, the older it is, the better it sounds. and i guess you didn't really listen to "indie" music during your primary school days. you just got lucky with the strokes but with the bravery, u didn't. and besides, The Bravery and The Strokes aren't even indie. strokes being on Sony Bmg and bravery being on island.

i was actually hoping you mean what you said and say bands like The Libertines, Interpol or even Feeder.

may i ask what sort of music do you listen now?
