Thousands of fans throng Baybeats music festival

indie turned me off when I first heard it. Some nitwit CD salesman at sembawang recommended franz ferdinand to my mum and she totally didn't consult me when buying a CD for me (she just asked what was popular among youngsters these days). I nearly fainted when I heard it because it just sounded so HORRIBLE (to me at least). Just like the time when I nearly died when a My Chemical Romance CD appeared on my rack.

can't blame your mum. staff at sembawang or cd rama or music junction and may i say even some staff of gramophone have music knowledge that's on the surface of the water. that's not to say i'm knowledgeable. but at least your mum buys cd for you. that's very cool to be honest.

I'd still prefer the scene underground during the days like Licensed to Revolution or Idiosyncrasy gig at Lasalle, Skafest at youth park.... FREAK.... That was few years back... aye.....
before all those 17yrs ago, the substation gigs was the most happening place ;p...those were the days

spot on! true indie music was never a trend. it just gained popularity. anyway you seem to have a huge interest in british music. how do you feel about My Bloody Valentine playing again? even though they are not from London itself, although they are based there.

MBV OMG. too bad they would never ever come to singapore.

"True indie music" eh. Meanings change over time, you can't do anything about it. That said, I do dislike the fact that everyone claims to be an indie kid because they listen to those select few bands (Strokes, Bloc Party, Killers etc.). However, good music is good music and I do enjoy most of those bands, it's just the fans that annoy me. Oh and arctic monkeys, overrated to hell.

One thing that really gets to me is the fact that in Singapore, everyone, their mother and their pet dog are forming pop-rock bands and calling themselves indie. Though technically it is true because practically everyone in Singapore is on an independent label, who actually applies that term to artists strictly on an independent label anymore? It is now a general sound, like rock, and all these annoying bands are popping up writing mediocre or shitty pop songs and calling themselves indie.
Right now, it is much like what emo was awhile back. You have the "true emo", then the bastardized modern form of it.

Oh well

Which is why we should look beyond labels. Strictly speaking, indie refers to independent labels, but it's gotten popular enough to warrant indie being labelled as a genre in itself.

So, heck about what indierock/indiepop distinctions, and follow your ears.

AEnimic: There are people in the crowd who just want to enjoy the music. And others that are just looking for trouble. I got elbowed in my back, my friends got trampled on and a mutt threw a fist at my friend's head and tried to pick a fight with him for no reason.

biopromax: If it hits your head. :\

'mutt'?

Woof woof 'mutt'?
