so what kind of things u hate when you go for competition both solo or band?
for me...
the admin side all confused.
alot kealong(some side to their own sch )
unable to sing the full song(some songs the most difficult part is at the ending)
people cramp all togehter in one place
jubge first look on your face(im tired can we end this fast)
and last of all( unpro jubging)
haha this is through experience...
how about you guys?

Unfair voting I guess.. Those school-based competitions lah..
And judges aren't up-to-date, so they just don't get it.. Lol

The judges staring at your every movement with hardly any facial expression. Pfft.
Or like when the emcee pronounces your band name wrongly. Lol.
And bad sound. :(

Rarely go for competitions, but I'd presume the thing that could really only irk me up is bad sound... like you're already there giving your best but some idiot had to mess it up with the sound and make you look like you're giving your second best..

Don't worry about the judges, they are there to give some kind of score to differentiate the good and the better.

If 1 judge can affect your performance so much, imagine you are on stage in front of 10k people, what will you do if 10 person behave like the judge? Will that affect your performance? I hope not.

i have to agree with james.

people will talk, critics will always be there.
may it be good or bad just take it in stride and learn from it.

to me theres no such thing as a bad comment.

I take criticisms from judges and people in the music industry very very seriously, I mean... it's the only way we know what the crowd wants to hear or see...

VHC update go read!

competitions that are horrible (based on my personal experience)

1) the judges are friends with the friends of the competitors
2) judges don't even play music or are in a band themselves yet judging people who plays in a band
3) judges are rejects themselves from bigger competitions
4) the sound system is horrible and monitors are not even present
5) u need bottle caps to gain extra points in the competition
6) the competition doesn't even have proper defined rules to start with
7) the competition requires people to pay to watch the competition
8) only minus-one music is allowed for the competition

My list can go on and on..........

I think competitions should choose their judges wisely.
Competitions should get more sponsors rather than making audience pay to watch

when there are some matrep who happen to be competitors and think they are very good.

that effing pisses me off.

lol... i agreed. its the look on their face...

its like, you know nothing and you act like you know everything.

makes me just wanna play super fast on chromatic scale i tell you..

I believe the judges are there to give you a piece of their minds based on what they have seen on stage. Good or bad comments.. It's all for one thing: To make you better. It's up to you accept it constructively or with just plain ego or in short, defensively. I noticed our local bands don't accept frank judgement open-mindedly. We just think we are good enough but our ears are shut to listen to what others really frankly think. When this happens, I think we are not ready for A COMPETITION. I think the judges are the actual voices of the audience. Audience will mostly say you've done just great so you'd feel appreciated. People, in general, will say what you'd want to hear. But judges or professionals are there to give you A reality check. I vote for a reality check per se. This is in fact all of us really need. It's only a matter of readiness. If you want to compete and get your band known, you better be ready for reality. Or you can remain in the studio, jam your hearts out and criticise about people's point of view about you. WHY? Because you are scared. Scared of what? Scared of reality. If you think you're good enough, step it up. Show what you really got. I hope we all can see your posters everywhere nationwide, and your name put up hugely outside National Stadium for your concert. Don't blame others or THINGS for your failure. Don't criticise others for not supporting you the way you want them to. Look at yourself first. Tell yourself if you've done ENOUGH to make it work. Don't just say and do nothing.
