The Telecaster posse...

my tele, one mim and the other cij. Both zhnged quite a bit, with 4 way PU switching and push pull knob for in phase/outta phase sound. Cij 62 custom is a fretless tele done by Malcolm. Both are not for country and wont twang when i dont want it to!

heh, it sounds dead, when clean

sustain is not as long as theres no more pivoting point for the strings to press against

sliding up and down is joy and easy to do outta pitch riff with bassist and other instrument. Just play in between the fretlines...

Hmm...

Is a telecaster with telecaster pickups replaced by humbuckers still a telecaster?

Is a fretless telecaster-shaped guitar that can't twang like a telecaster still a telecaster?

Is a telecaster-looking guitar that can't make telecaster sound a telecaster?

So far, reading this thread has felt like watching a movie that has no gun fights, car chase... :D

More importantly, some interesting discussions could also spin-off from this on:-
- Individual attitude towards what is a telecaster.
- How telecasters modded with not so telecaster specs serve the owners' needs better.

Might be worth it to risk a few bruises for this...

people who spend too much time on forums will keep thinking of things like this.

its a freakin instrument. use it.

Think of the tele as the typical chinese cleaver. Hokkien way si kio "Chai Tor".

The ang mohs have a specific knife for every kind of purpose while the chinese needs only one chai tor to mince, slice, julienne, tenderise, chop, carve, smash you name it the chai tor does it.

The tele is the Chai Tor of guitars.

bravo, no one can give a better analogy then edder here. *clap clap* :D but seriously, i do think the tele is a cleaver or to put it in the way edder said chai tor, due to the simple fact that every genre of music has seen the tele in action, blues, rock, pop even metal. but i do feel, it's a personal feeling, that the sounds are kinda limited with only 3 way switching (without modding) it's only limited to 3 sounds (correct me if i am wrong tho). however, after all that hoola boola, i do really hope to own a tele someday =)

hahaha. sound... i dun really believe in eg. "les paul sound nothing can beat it, its raw, powerful, etcetc" i believe nowadays tones can be achieved by other means...

*keithC puts on helmet and takes cover from flying objects too*

i absolutely dig teles because of the way they look.
likewise, i dig les paul's heavy sounds, but i dun like its singlecut shape... so wad to do? put a humbucker in the tele! turn up gain!
(ps this is my view, no offence to les paul owners. pls dun start another tone comparison debate)

zac89, you forgot, the tele has two very useful and powerful controls, the volume and tone control..a lot more useful tones to be found using them..

Putting a humbucker on a telecaster is like...

buying a Volkswagon Beetle and then
putting in a Posche engine!

You youngsters ah....
Too hot blooded and impatient to appreciate the classics dun anyhow buy and mod!

:p :p :p

hmm i guess thats true, but only how much can the tone and volume affect the different kind of tones you can get? there is only, that much that one can coax from a tele. personal view tho. i guess it;s also cause i'm a hardcore strat user, and perhaps i'm bias, heh. but hey teles are awesome in their own right.

hmm...good vol and tone manipulation can get you a myriad of tones from one guitar and amp/few pedals like jazz tones, clean tones, throaty blues tones, searing blues and rock tones, treble-y tones if u like them or warm fat tones..and the list goes on and on..sometimes i even wonder what i'm doing with so many od pedals..

heh, too many od pedals are a good thing. ( i guess) i'm a multi efx kinda guy, no $$ for indivi haha, anyways back to topic. i will agree on that. good vol and tone manupilation will coax a myraid of tones. now this info will fuel my desire to get a tele.. arghhh

you talking bout mah tere?????? a neck humbucker on a tele works ok! esp its a Bill Lawrence L450... sound like a BIG CLEAR single coil. I personally don't really like the muddy stock neck pickup of a tele.
