The shredder's pick

Jazz III. Bought about 20 a few years ago. Lost some but still my go-to pick for most stuff. I don't like using it for strumming though.

i use AWE-IN-ONES ...lol..seems no 1 here uses it arh??

probrably only you, me and dhalif

i swear by profound Is, the transparent and semi-transparent ones

why?

the indent/grip thingy is a unique hold for a pick, i find i can only do my grouping of 5 funk chops smoothly with AIOs, something to do with wrist angle and stuff

the grip also is awesome, i've never accidentally dropped an AIO pick, even when i'm doing 16th note octave chord patterns

mi only prob is that their almost always out of stock, and expensive for an idiot like me that loses picks at a rate of 2.3 a week

I hold the pick extremely close to the tip, easier to play FAST. So the dunloop tortex wedge is the only pick I'll use, the tip is not very rounded, neither is it too sharp.

I thought this thread is about "the shredders" pick...
Hahahahhha... Oh well...

I'm currently using either the red Dunlop Jazz III or the green Tortex Jazz.
The red Jazz III is more flexible and give a "smoother" sound (!!??) than the black ones.
The green Tortex gives a different sound and snap and i especially love it when its worn out and rounded at the tip.
Loves the way it bends when playing hard too.
What i don't like about these Jazz picks are, they're difficult to "hide and hold with my middle finger" when i want to use my fingers instead.
Its easier to do that with normal picks... :(

Since i'm not a shredder, i have a few "real shredders" picks to share:
- During his early solo years Paul Gilbert uses these white picks (abt 1.14mm thck).
- He switched to yellow Tortex (.73mm) during his Space One tour (he uses the orange Tortex .6mm thck now!).
- Yngwie uses this white pick (abt 1.5mm thck)
- Neil Zaza uses this purple 2mm Delrin 500 before Dunlop made the same ones in blue for him.
- Andy Timmons uses the Tortex Black Gold Jazz (1.14mm thck).

Oh, and Eric Johnson fans take note: Dunlop made signature red Jazz III picks model for him. Modelled after "vintage Jazz III from Eric’s collection".
No wonder he said he have no picks to give when i asked him for one...

Hope that gives insight on shredders' picks...

hmm, i support local stuff and i use the Awe-In-One Profound I. Good grip on it and its currently my favourite now! Glad to see some other softies using this plastic too! Thought i was the odd one out.

i use dunlop jazz III's....they never fail to hit notes very positively....one other pick i have used but not as often is the dunlop tortex 1.5mm sharp tipped pick...its the white one with a really sharp edge....

I used to use Awe-in-Ones...

Then my style changed and I went to V Picks.

I'm using this monster of a pick:

Its 5.66mm thick.
