some ppl here are as young as 15 u know. not me though but some of them are rich i tell ya. ppl like me are schooling.. we dont have the time to work. and worst of all i'm managing 2 very expensive hobbies: guitar and photography. i'm saving up for gas and saving up to buy a dslr. but gas is stopping me from funding a camera. its just sickening i tell you.

i'm just worried i'll end up spending like 10k on gear when i grow up and start to work. its a disgusting lot just for a person who plays guitar as a hobby. thats how horrible gas can be. but thank goodness, i believe that its the players skill and technicality that matters, gear is secondary, just like photography, its the photographer that matters the most the gear is secondary.

well its possible to school and work. sacrifice? i school and work. and i know many who do too. its about controlling ur finances and time.

thats true.. i could work on the weekends but that means no time to play guitar! no lah actually, i didnt want to work because i would be spending money needlessly, and yes i agree that people shouldnt complain abt guys being rich and spending so much on gear. if thats they're way of spending money we are in no position to change that.
but IMHO, i feel that we should only spend on what we need not what we want.
thats how i save money hahah.

ahh heck i'll just post my shameless $$$ spent on guitars and gear

gibson les paul studio: $1850
ibanez pgm3:$800??

dunlop crybaby 535:$200
barber LTD:$160
boss ge-7:$65
dime distortion DD-11:$100 (steal to the max)
ehx big muff:$110 (traded for a first hand pedal worth that much)
VS h2o:$110 (steal to the max again)

total: you go calculate

i dont have my own amp, i borrowed one but i'll be buying one after exams.

my first pedals ever were digitech hothead and boss ch-1 both sold.

i'm just worried i'll end up spending like 10k on gear when i grow up and start to work. its a disgusting lot just for a person who plays guitar as a hobby.

No it's not. $10k is nothing when you really go wild. When you eventually being your career life after graduation and get a pretty good salary, you'll find that you'd even be tempted to get a guitar that could even cost $10k per guitar. Once that money is in your hands, your GAS knows no cure...

Have patience, young grasshopper...;)

that is so true, bro.

i estimated that i throughout the years, i spent app $60k on gears. ridiculous! however, my excuse is i play music for a living.

ironically, on the day i retire as a pro guitarist, my gear is as such:

1. A Fender Mex Strat (heavily modded by yours truly) with parts cannibalised from broken guitars = US$299.

2. A BOSS ME-5 (sponsored)

3. 2 x BOSS DS-2 (sponsored)

4. A Fender US Telecaster (loaned)

5. A Fender Acoustic (sponsored)

6. A Roland GP-16 with MIDI controller (only utilised on concerts tours, in a flight case custom case) = appx S$1000 used.

7. any amps according to my specs during concerts and tours. i just play any amps that clubs provide. im not choosy.

total costs = haha .... that Fender Mexican of mine and the GP-16 around 1.5k?

:)

Same here. I need to think about upgrading my amplifier and upgrading my guitar's pickups. Or possibly, re-routing for a full-sized humbucker at the neck. I'd also want to get my HM-200's footswitch repaired, and heavily-padded Ritter gigbags for my other guitars.

But of course, these are my future wishes. No money to spare, no talk!:mrgreen:

spent $700+ for my cort mr730fx
but got great singapore sale gt discount,
so paid around 650+ for the guitar.

4 picks --> approx $3 (1 given to me by mike when i bought the amp from him...well i was using the finger pick and he told me i was using the wrong pick for the type of music i was playing  ) i'm still experimenting on picks though, prob gonna buy a few more in time to come.

marshall valvestate 20, 100 bucks from slavation army, they said it was spoilt but took it home, sprayed some contact cleaner and volia! works like a charm..total amount spent, 150 bucks for lp and marshall :)
