i tried rotosounds before .. the Jazz 66 ... very nice response .. the treble a little rolled off after a while of use .. initially when you string them on they sound quite sterile .. after a while of seasoning it sounds really good ...

Hi-beams are currently strung on my BBN5A ... soft strings compared to normal nickel strings .. if you're a hard rocker those strings would pose a action problem .. they are very consistent throughout .. very even sounding if you have a properly setup bass .. the highs are very musical and the lows are consistent ... i'm sticking with DR all the way man .. but the drawback is .. expensive lah ... very nice highs for slapping .. hee hee ..

i'm thinking of trying the Lo-riders next time round i change strings .. or the Long Necks .. =) ..

Well then.. I guess I'll be buying a pack of those to try out the next time I head over to Davis :P I'm currently using DR Hi-Beams on my Lakland and Thomastik-Infeld Superalloys on the Fender...

Been looking at Lo-Riders as well! Been needing something with more tension. Davis charges ridiculously high prices for the MM Fat Beams though. They used to be $35, the last time I tried to buy a set it was $50. :?

maybe we should just import them in a huge pack and distribute man .. hahaha ..

I find that Dr hi beams are too bright for my active ibanez. Its good for slapping and if u are into iron maiden or other similar stuff. One thing for sure : they dont fall "Dead" as a doornail easily. Ive tried others previously but ceased from trying out/buying other brands (Untill i heard bout DR -A lot of good reviews on them) however compared to the rest, i find that roto strings gave a nice consistent sound even when they're "Dead". (I like the sound actually. Once ive used the "E" string for 6 yrs until i had to replace it). It makes good economic sense coz i dont have to change my strings regularly. Just my opinion. Btw hows the TI? Anyone tried the TI flatwounds so far?

i've got ti flats on my fretless. haven't tried any other strings with my fretless so i can't really give a good gauge on what sound is done by the bass, strings or my antiquity II pickups. tension in it is really low so it kinda takes some getting use to. i wouldn't recommend it for fretted basses if you like low action but dig in hard. the sound overall from my bass is really dynamic. i can get a good jaco growl to a motown thump. the only thing lacking is the modern sparkly high bass tone but that wasn't the sound i was aiming to get so i'm happy with my setup.

the only thing is getting used to the low tension. the strings are very consistent out of the pack. they don't deaden much and they've settled in nicely now and i don't see myself changing strings on the fretless anytime soon.

i'm a dr sunbeam person for my ibanez sr700. i prefer the softer feel of nickel. they sound really good out of the pack with sparkly highs but not harsh like slinkys. there is a warm low to it which you normally don't find until the highs sort of die out in new strings. unfortunately the atk fills my band needs for the moment. the sr700 is too modern sounding for my tastes. a pity because it is such a solid instrument.

Just $550 on the ibanez bass pack at swee lee...Decent enuf, but I'm looking to get a squier or fender at the next Swee Lee sale 8)

Uhh...DO u all know where to get those fretless basses with lines on the fretboard to guide the player ? :?:

warmoth, all parts and mighty mite come to mind if you're talking about replacement parts. you can find some fretless necks at guitar connection.

Here's my weapon list:

1. Fender MIJ 4-string Silver Series Jazz Bass from '96 - $800
2. All Parts 4-String Fretless Precision Bass - $550
3. Cort Curbow 4-string Fretless Bass (second hand) - $450
4. Washburn 5-string Fretless Acoustic Bass (50% off from Swee Lee Sale) - $500
5. Ibanez 6-string BTB556MP - Christmas present from my wife, who refused to tell me how much, so estimated $1500?
6. Yamaha Acoustic Guitar - Gift from Auntie, est $450
7. Yamaha Classical Guitar - found it among some stuff, est $200?
8. Boss GT-6B (50% off from Swee Lee Sale) - $580

So total's estimated's about $5000
