1) ask 10 person on their perception of tubey sound, more than often will have 20 different answers, definitions according to each individual ways of hearing the response of diffferent tube, according to the situation or conditions and model of amp in used. Sometime its hard to say, how tubey sound, shud sound
2) tubes in effect, most of the time are being supply too low power for it to make a big different. Certain characteristic that we hear, might, or might not come from the tube, but how the circuit is being design for, utilising that tube. And utimately, psychologically, from a marketing point of view, the insertion of tubes in effect pedals, can be a big selling point towards the mass consumer market.
