ok today during recess, i was talking to a friend who is the lead guitarist of a band (not gonna say which one). i said i have rubbed a little of the skin on my wrist off while strumming and hanging my bass low while jamming. he said u play punk rock right? i said no, we play pop-punk, and some emo. he said i was a poser for hanging my bass low. then he gave me a list of lengths which is specific for genres (wtf?)

he said

punk rock/metal: low
pop punk/powerpop: medium low
indie: medium
alternative/jazz: damn high

i juz said, "ooooooooookkk....." and continued eating.

since when does the length of which u hang ur guitar affect your-poser-ness? i always thought that u shud juz hang where u feel comfortable. btw, i hang my bass slightly higher now to avoid rubbing my skin off :P

any comments? :?

i agree with you..

tell ur fren to get a life..

why is he so worried about being a poser??

sheesh..GROW UP!

How you hang your guitar, usually is a good indication of what kind of player you are... usually. :D

Higher usually more lead orientated.
Lower usually more rhythm orientated.

And really really low, usually the younger crowd does it.

Usually.

But I wouldn't be able to figure out what genre you play by just knowing how low you hang your guitar.

he kept insisting even though i was all, "how can?" and since when does height of the instrument determine such things? and juz by one question like this i get called a loser, poser, act professional etc. :?

i mean come on, i'm not pro so what right? i hang low i feel good can already! :?

sorry i'm juz venting my frustrations

Dude chill.

Its one of those thigns you say now, then 2 years later, look back and slap yourself for saying something so silly. :D

The fact that he's already assigned genres for different strap lengths is poser enough. Next thing you know they'll be approved guitars and dress sense for different genres.

hehe, isnt dressing or guitars type been always a standard to stereotype since a nong nong nong ago

go penisular plaza/shopping centre can see liao

People who define how people should stand for what they play=POSERS
People who listen to them=POSERS

I dont understand so many people's obsession with "GENRE-ISING' everything...

Do your own thing....dont give a fuck...if u wanna hang it high do so...hang it low if u want...I change lengths for songs.....there are some songs with complex runs ....some i just need to play some chords and jump into the drumset..

ps.SLASH IS DA COOLEST GUITAR PLAYER OF ALL TIME....ZAKK WYLDE IS NOT FAR BEHIND
 :D

Hrm, I really do need to find an emoticon to express sarcasm. :?

anyways i'm not gonna listen to him and change my guitar length so as to be non-poser. and my nasi-lemak with alot of sambal helped soothe my anger for awhile :P

Well just as long as it's comfortable for you to play and doesn't strain you. There's something that's even eviler than being poser called RSI/carpel tunnel syndrome. :P
