The Bassist's Effects Line Up

bro superkicky bro, how much are the two pedals if i buy brand new... and how much would modding of the od-3 cost.

i'm thinking of spending some money on pedals finally... and being new to pedals... would you recommend them for a first timer?

I'm not sure man :/ You can try caling SL or Music Theme and asking, but it's much cheaper to buy 2nd hand la. For modding, you can email randolf and ask him for a quote :) Randolf@embryosongs.com if I'm not wrong.

I'd recommend the Sansamp Bass Driver DI if you're looking to start out on effects though. That one can last you for quite a while if you're not a gear srut like some of us.

i think the sabddi or mxr m-80 should only be used if ur lgonna be using the preamp and distortion. for the same money, you can get better distortions and better preamps (like the aphex). all this imo anyway.

prefer analog individual pedals. just go out and try and try and try and then buy. if it's 2nd hand i guess you just do your research, pay a decent price for it and if it doesn't work out, sell it for about the same price you bought it 2nd hand.

to start off i'd say chorus, od and filters are good first choice pedals as it adds to diff aspects to your playing and can be used relatively often enough.

eh superkicky, remember to record your wooly mammoth. ace paint job man.
what do you use your line selector for? and can elaborate on the differences between the blues driver and the bass drive? thanks!

Will do... I'll try and see if I can do a convincing Hysteria sound :P

The LS-2 is in A->B->Bypass mode. Line A goes to the DT-10, line B goes to the Aguilar preamp for added bass and treble when I'm using a passive bass.

I'm actually using my Blues Driver as a sort of clean-boosting preamp with the level at unity and gain set to 9 o'clock. Tightens up the sound some, and even if I push the gain higher, it cleans up really nicely if I roll back on the volume knob.

Normally the Bass-Drive doesn't clip when in FM mode and gain 1 at 8 o'clock, but the BD2 pushes it into clipping pretty nicely. Then if I need something that's really all-out gain, I kick in the boost channel. The bass-drive has a lot more gain available than the BD-2, so if you're looking for really solid overdrive, the bass-drive is a good place to start.

You're supposed to use 2x 9v batteries with it, but I bought a couple of 9v battery clip adaptors for my 1spot and plugged those in instead. Works just as well, but keep in mind that you'll need an additional power adaptor to run it at 18v.

my budget's not a lot, say 150? i'm looking for a versatile od...

If you're looking for single-channel OD, the OD-3 is a good bet... 2nd hand, they're about $70 on Luther. The ODB-3 may or may not be to your liking though... Try before you buy :)

has anyone tried out the new mxr blowtorch yet? seems to be getting some bad reviews online but it's concept seems very good. i'm going to ps today to see if i can find it at yamaha.

the MXR blowtorch sound is just ... weird ...

care to elaborate more exin?
i tried it out. really like the blend knob and stuff. the sound sounds okay with alot of different tones of distortion. i didn't try it out at a very loud volume at ps but it sounded like the bass was retained.
