First up, a very big THANK YOU to cherns for so patiently catering to my whims in the whole process of ordering the bass. I originally ordered the block inlays in white pearloid, but there was some miscommunication and it ended up wth black block inlays, and he helped me ship the neck back all the way to US for a swap to a neck in the correct colour.
OK, now for a short review.
The finish is absolutely stunning, with the wood grain very nicely coming throgh the transparent finish. The first neck with black inlays fitted the body perfectly, no gaps at all. Even with the replacement neck, the fit is near perfect. I probably wouldnt be able to tell if I din know the neck had been swapped. Oh yes... This bass is LIGHT!!! and thats comparing to my two other basses, which are 4 stringers. I was throwing it in my gig bag up into the air while picking it off the ground. =)
Next, the neck. In short, this is the most comfortable 5 string neck I've ever played. (one friend of mine commented that it feels more like an accoustic guitar neck... haha) Possibly the thinnest of them all, and it feels more like a 4 string than a 5 string. Fretwork is perfect, the ends are rounded off very nicely, and the action is super low. Cherns had it raised for me to accomodation my hard plucking. I've yet to get used to this neck, cant dig in as much as I used to on my other bass, but this makes for much faster playing.
This bass comes with the audere preamp installed in it. In Mid-Z mode, with the eq all flat, it sounds a little thin for my taste. With the mids and the bass boosted, and the treble rolled off, it sounds HUGE! Yupps, this is one amazing preamp. I'll probably change the strings to a heavier gauge in the near future.
I find the High-Z mode a bit too extreme for slapping. ALL the high notes really come through, but its a bit too piercing for me. Mid-z and low-z all the way for me here. I've just changed the battery to 18v instead of the original 9v, will update if I manage to hear any difference in quality of sound. Only gripe I have is the drop in volume when the balance knob is set in the middle as compared to soloing either pickup, but this is something inherent in the active mixing of the audere preamp that I gotta get used to.
All in all, this is a very versatile bass, very playable and absolutely enjoyable. The slap sound is amazing, which was what I was going after on this one, and there's no hum at all from the hum-cancelling big splits. As for sound clips, I've no resources to record on my comp, but here's a link to one posted from bassplayers tv:

Oh yes. the mandatory pics (now with the new neck, and I know, a lot of people have been telling me that black inlays looks nicer on this one, but its too "geddy lee" for my liking and i prefer the subtleness on this. B-) ):
