Hey guys. Just wondering, what do u people think makes a Band in Singapore Successful and be able to capture the hearts of many singaporeans??!?!

It can be any quality. How can a Singaporean band be able to capture the hearts of all singaporeans and yet take on the global stage?

go overseas...i guess..

but wherever u go..competition is stiff...

so..if u got the right attitude..and charisma and stuff..god bless..u'll get ur big break.

Make good music! Even if you're sickly talented, if you're music doesn't appeal to the masses, it's no use no matter how hard you try.

Re: Succesful Bands

actually singapore hard la.

i mean look at ronin or any other so called successful local band. they're not even as big as say, good charlotte in the US, or x-japan in Japan back then.

successful is hard to define also.

stefanie sun successful? compared to deep purple, maybe not. compared to hong junyang, maybe.

i dont think Singapore will churn out the next Led Zep or Radiohead anytime soon. the musicians, industry and market has to be ready for one.

singapore will never do so, at least for now. no offense haha.

Singapore has too small of a market for anyone to start out their career and be successful here...look at all the famous singers in singapore...all of them started overseas...

In everything that we do to be successful, all it need is that little bit of luck... Take example Taufik & Hardy, Singapore Idol helps them. Without that here, overseas is the best choice... Overseas tend to be more flexible and open-minded to recognise talent when they see one...

Depends on what is your meaning of successful. :D Simple can also be successful, famous can also be successful.

handsome/pretty, sing in chinese and dun say any bad words

yup.

1. go for a makeover to look mildly attractive (lose that tan, and plaster your face with that whitening lotion).
2. write commercially viable songs in mandarin.
3. get them recorded with a reputable producer.
4. find a label to market you in taiwan.

that's if you're seeking relatively huge financial and commercial success.

if you're after moderate financial and commercial success, repeat steps but sing in malay and market yourself in malaysia and indonesia.

alternatively, you can make bloody awesome music in english and stay humble. then you'll achieve a different kind of success, the kind of success where people would go: 'if they were anywhere but here, they'd be huge.' as a local band, i'm afraid that's as good as it gets.
