after reading the opening arms to the foreigners... i came across tis group in facebook.

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2232301379

opened by the foreigners here... pretty gd arguments in the comment section. but still i find the pic disturbing...

i dun reli like some things tat are happening like the erp, price hike etc... but to me... i reli find tis as an insult...
wat do u guys/gals thing?

how sad .

to think that even singaporeans will say such things about their govt/country in a public forum , no matter how bad our govt is ):

hmm yea disturbing.. these guys are retarded. Anyone can always state the bad, bad and bad for any country, but what about the good?

That's Singaporeans for you. Forever complaining and never finding time to appreciate the finer things in life. Always thinking abut what they don't have instead of what they have.

there are tons of gd stuff here which they didnt notice. nothing abt the gahmen...
its more to like safe country, intersting cultures etc

i really find the picture disturbing man.

even if they hate this country, the picture is really uncalled for.

Interesting, although I find a few points that are debatable.

I think the person who created the group probably did not consider a few things when he made a few points.

Let's start off with the one I laughed the most:
"Despite the fact that Singlish is the most widely used language in Singapore, the language is carefully avoided by the broadcast media and rarely used in public speeches."

Singlish is not considered a language. Yes, take it down. It is NOT a language. It is merely a collection of words that are not in the English dictionary, in other words, a form of slang language. Every country will have their own slang. Australia will call their buddies "mates", America "bro" & "dawg", Singapore "kaki" "ah bang" "gor", and the list goes on.
A quick check with wikipedia shows that Singlish is considered an "English Dialect". Yes, a dialect.

If one those bother to consider, you do realise that when we speak "Singlish" it is mainly English, mixed/replaced with other words from the other various dialects/lanugages that we know, or its just the way we pronounce it.

I shan't comment on his other points due to lack of knowledge, although I did notice one VERY interesting thing...

In a video posted to Obama, opposition leader Mr Chee said he hopes that the US "will pay more attention to the human rights abuses of the Singapore government".
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/7841485.stm

I find this laughable, simply because if they even bothered staying in Singapore for some time and actually get to know a few facts, we all know that Chee Soon Juan took his facts and completely distorted the truth

Which is the same thing the creator of this facebook group is doing

Ok i feel i have to comment on this i am not singaporean but my parents have lived here for 10 years and so am often here. As i dont live here i am not really in a great position to judge but Im going to have to agree with some of the points the creator of this group has said.

The use of capital punishment in this country i find outrageous (I personally am completely against it full stop) it is used far too often and from what i've heard sometimes without what the rest of the world would consider a fair trial.

The extensive monitoring of the internet and the sometimes controlling of what can be put out. I am aware there are not to many examples of this but just the fact they have the power to do this is wrong in itself.

Although officially a democracy it seems that it is more a one party state with the way the PAP seem to treat opposition parties realistically the PAP will win every election in the forseable future.

Some points on there are ridiculous though the Singlish one is retarted you wouldnt see some chav in England reading the news. Also i quite like the idea of organ donation the UK is leaning more towards this aswell and i dont see anyone complaining.

You can probably tell i dont know that much about this but feel i had to comment

Just felt i should add that picture is just unnecessary

I don't see what is completely wrong with the death penalty. I have to agree that some crimes are not worthy of the death penalty, and a extremely long time in jail would be sufficient. But for other cases, the death penalty can be justifiable.

The most obvious would be intended, planned murder

As for point number 5, its completely wrong. There ARE discussions about politics around the internet. The fact that some threads here are debating about politics is quite evident about it as well. However, I personally feel that if we want to have discussions on politics, then we should be fair and understanding in our comments, and not just doing the plain, old PAP-bashing.

Because bashing will do neither the people of Singapore nor the leaders any good. It's merely some avenue of venting your frustrations without thinking of the effects or consequences that may happen

Now, point number 6 is only true to a certain extent. About the political aspect, I'm not sure, and frankly speaking I'm not really bothered about it. As for what is considered sexually explicit, its subjective. Considering we can have shows like "Desperate Housewives" on TV, which I think its bad enough, doesn't it show that MDA has allowed it? i'm not sure what the clown of the group is tihnking, but if he wants porn to be allowed in Singapore, I'm sorry but a lot of people will not allow it. I myself won't want to see it being sold in Singapore, or shown (media format) so widely around here. It is already bad enough with the internet, so let's leave all these aspiring "adult-film actors" to show cast their "talents" on the internet, okay?

The only thing I'm bothered is that Singaporeans lack manners and consideration.
Maybe it's just me. Cos I am quite particular about good manners and etiquette.
Don't get me started on Singaporeans and MRT.

Still, I'm not ashame to be a Singaporean :)

Its funny how westerners create their own "standards" , and then attempt to use rate/ criticize Asians base on their "standards"

Doesnt that remind you of George Bush's administration?

abt the manners thinghy... so far so gd la for me... accept for some of the younger generations tis days - sori if i offended any1

mrt... no1 can escape the kiasu 1s...
but still i believe no foreigners can judge singaporeans like tat. coz i see foreigners acting like a shit many times, like cutting taxi q, showing the middle finger to an old man infront of their sch gate when they manage to cut the poor old man's cab etc...

so i believe tat no1 is perfect... not ang mohs not asians not aliens

There's many comments stating that Singaporeans can't speak proper English and stuff.
I am tempted to comment that Westerners can't even speak properly, cos majority of them mumble their way throughout the conversation. Then blamed us for not understanding them.
LOL.
But well, world peace lah. Don't fight.

And I believe that if that person hate Singapore so much, it's his/her flaw.
It's his/her personal lack in the ability to adapt to the world's different culture and are only able to adapt to their own living styles.
It's not Singapore, it's them.
So they have to change to adapt to Singapore, not the other way round.

I feel the death penalty is just a deterrent. About 70% of death penalties given are drug offenses. If a person knows trafficking drugs carry the death penalty, and continues to do so, he is prepared to bear the consequences. If a person commits murders, I would say that he has already given up his right to live..

Any thoughts on this?

hmmm... i think the death penalty here are pretty ok...

culpable homicide amounting to murder... drug traficking... possesion of drugs over the limited weight etc...

these are clearly stated. so 'at least', there is a 'warning'
i feel this is still ok. its not as if those who r hang did shoplifting, vandalism or those small time cases. its more for the big scale type,so i think it is still ok.
