Something BAD happened across the straits (Msia)

well, I'm just back from a holiday at my relatives' place at M'sia. What I heard is, corruption is pervasive on all levels there, so if you want something done fast, you have to pay under-table money to people at all levels. So a minor repairwork which my uncle undertook ran up to $1000, when it should have cost only $100.
And that's one of the reasons why in M'sia, the rich are obscenely rich, and the poor are dirt-poor.

Well, we couldnt actually complain abt that... On the other perspective, I rather pay 50RM to the officer rather than ending in the station... That's actually a "beauty"... :p

beauty?
when laws are not enforced but are merely means to collecting bribes, it's as good as anarchy, and it isn't safe for anyone, tourists or locals alike.

This perspective is true.. I agree... We just have to be extra careful and alert...

thought i would share my experience here, was going to kl a few years ago with my family by bus and got stopped by the customs officer at the malaysia side cause my passport had about 2 weeks left before it expired. the guy seemed all big and shiny stating that the passport is invalid if used in the last 3 months before expiry til my dad slipped him 100 rm hidden in the passport sleeve, think if we gave him more he would bow down and lick our toes like the filthy bitch he is

so remember to extend your passports before you travel

p.s im not saying all malaysians are like that but you get black sheep everywhere

I don't know , they just know. Last time i went jb I wore clothes like I was going downstairs to buy stuff. I tot they din notice until I went to holiday plaza and this guy selling pirated cds started shouting at us "Singapore Singapore! Cheap cheap, come!" I think maybe it's our language and accent.

Ok don't be rude now. :\ Well how do they tell if you're a local or you're not a local? Are you trying to say it's the way Singaporeans generally act around Malaysians that allows them to 'detect' that we're non-locals? Like perhaps some Singaporeans enjoy boasting and stuffs?

If that's the case, then perhaps we're quite to be blamed too.

if u really want to blend in in malaysia. u must have a moustache. no need to gel up ur hair. anyway, i've went there for quite a number of times and so far so good. maybe it just depends on ur luck

that is so scary can ...

okay lah .. SG is a really safe place to live in but things still do happen, you get robbed, groped in the backside by some pervert .. i'm not a girl BTW .. i'm just saying it ...

yeah .. so if this can happen to you in singapore why not in malaysia or anywhere else in the world?

it's just the attitudes of these people that they think they can get away with it lah ..

or maybe the police does not enforce the law enough ..

I heard alotta those too. Serious case .. sad for those people who were victimized. If I' have to visit Johore, I'd go by train or coach

Relac relac, I posted this thread just to warn and be safe.. Not discourage people from gng to Msia... 8)

malaysia boleh

it's like this everywhere around the world not just m'sia. other places are much more 'dangerous'. singapore is just a very secure place.

still very sorry to hear what happened...
