someone offer a newbie some advice?

anyway if you are just beginning to pick the guitar up.. i would advice you to go right hand reason being
1. there's more choices in picking out right hand guitars
2. it doesnt really matter if u start out as a left or right player

@JweiH: 250 more or less? but davis has a starter package for 175/215. not sure which 1 to go for.
@Imkeith: yep, thats what people been telling me, so i thought of getting a right-handed 1.
@princeprat: ??

then play C Maj first, u can move on to 7 after ur clear about the basics~
IMO, u know what, maybe u should try going to ultimate guitar website and find a tab version of your favourite song and try to play it :D

ok. for a start, i just searched for smoke on the water, just the intro alone.
but anywhere i can learn the tabs? don't want to depend too much on you guys lol.

watch youtube if you don't understand the tabs.

you need guitarpro software to read guitar pro file, alternately you can download tuxguitar also.

aiya treat likui again ask him what you need to start learning on ur own...if not get a teacher to help you start off on the right track. picking up bad habits at the start can really hamper ur learning curve

can lah.. but after my exams. i managed to play the smoke on the water intro, it was the tabs that were wrong. LOL.
another problem: my eyes can only focus on my fretting hand(left) or my right hand thats playing, when i focus on the left i play the wrong note. when i focus on the right, my left hand cannot press the correct string. so how do you guys cope with this?

the ultimate to all questions abt guitar....

practise only..... practise until you can play in the dark even...

hmmm how did you know the tabs were wrong?? most tabs for such a popular classic should be right by now or it would be off UG. anyway, i'm sure many of us had the same problem when starting...i know i did. just look at both hands to make sure they're doing the right thing b4 playing the note. yes it slows down the whole process of playing to a crawl but since you have that problem...you gotta correct it no??

about the smoke on the water thing: the sound was just off i could tell by just playing the note LOL
regarding the both hands thing: did all of you had this problem? cause i thought i was the only one with the confusion.

edit:Likui told me the intonation was off when i got the guitar. so i'm supposed to fix it by changing the strings. but in the first place whats intonation? searched around the internet and it said that the note and an octave higher should be the same. don't really know what it means, can someone explain? lol.
