someone offer a newbie some advice?

buy acoustic or electric? it entirely depends on what kind of music you wanna play. strum and sing = acoustic. rock/metal etc go electric.

going for electric.. but the only shop i know is the peninsula plaza. that place can not?

doesn't matter where you get your stuff, as long as it's what you want. maybe you can tell us what you'd like to settle down with then we recommend you the best place to get it

JweiH gave me look at different brands.. so i thought i'm going with the Smash S1 3TSB or the ST 30.
But from what i see only SVguitars has it. But then at the same time not sure whether they have the left-handed one.

edit: JweiH lol sorry didn't know that.. i thought it was a shop only.

yep, im a beginner too, LEFTY TOO! but i guess, if you're up for it, you could learn...the right hand style. Cos thats exactly what im doing. learning classical guitar though =D

actually i was thinking about playing with my right-hand too since i never tried it with my left-hand, but then still scared won't get used to it..
so i guess i'll call SV in a week or so.. by then can anyone teach me the basics? or should get lesson? lol.

what can you learn here? lol.

Hahahah i love this post.

Ok basically to the threadstarter whatever genre you are playing start with the basics, meaning stuff like note positioning, strumming patterns, amount of strength to use for strumming, string bending, vibrato, chops etc. and it would be advisable to start off with rhythm guitar playing though many people think lead is alot of flashier which is true, but to put it simply if you cant play solid rhythm guitar its very difficult to be a good lead guitarist.

Regardless of what you manage to pick up from the forum it will never be as effective as having a guitar teacher or someone more experienced to guide you.

With regards to what guitar to get, this is entirely individual. Thats why people tell you to go try because what you like may not be what i like. Its all about you, whether the guitar feels good in your hands or not. Same goes for amp, whether you like the sound you are getting or not. As for pedals that can come later..

Learn songs that are simple to begin with. Even learning from tabs may not be 100% accurate. Youtube has several teaching videos. Many people start off that way including myself. All the best.

i think the best is to learn right handed. right handed playing has more options in terms of guitars. after all since you haven't even touched a guitar before, it doesn't matter...a friend of mine is left-handed but got violin grade 8 right-handed. so i dun see why you can't start right-handed.
anyway you must see what kinda songs you listen to in which you like the guitar's tone. then it will be easier to help you out. but also dun just limit urself to smash guitars. they may be decent guitars but they are not the only decent budget brands around.
