soft vs luther classified section

No offense to mikeman tho, just an opinion.

No offense at all. What you say is very reasonable. But I wasn't refering to used items with vintage value or in high demand. Either case it's a free market, people can sell an buy as they see fit.

My only gripe is how the dealings are being carried out. Like we say, kiasu and kaisi, wah lun!! Shake head..........

Yes, I sold tons of stuff on the old format luther site but now I find soft so much more faster, easier & interactive ....such that I dont even post on luthers anymore.

Still kudos to luther for their "pioneer batch" status.

Just like I used to like mindseye forum before...nows it's gone...

Live with the times I guess ....

BTW my classical guitar's still available ... :-)

its indeed a seller's mkt now. i find the used items generally more expensive nowadays (both on soft and luthermusic ad) compared to the hey days of luthermusic classified ads. recently i even gave up waiting for a good deal for a used guitar that i want and bought a new one instead because the pricing of the used ones are just not that far off from a brand new one.

luthermusic class ad still have quite a few rare good deals now and then, like the $200 yamaha AEX500, $600+ jagstang/jaguar/mustang, but the problem is when the seller dont leave their contact number or email, i am not sure if the 'contact seller' function works.

The aex500 ad was recent, and it turned out to be an auction too. Think went for much higher. Guess it's forum style inspired deal.

One thing about Luther's classified (that SOFT don't have) is.....you will find more people selling their expensive stuff there. And once a blue moon, you can see vintages or pricey boutique stuff for sale. I guess sellers perceived Luther's as having a more diversified audience (ie. higher chance buyers got the moolah), while SOFT is more for teenagers, students and young adults (ie. no money till allowance/paycheck arrives).

;)

I agree SOFT have gone a long way man. Last time when i wanna sell my gear i will use luther music (that was around 00 till 06?? and recently i discover SOFT back) now its SOFT all the way. GOOD JOB SOFT!!

Getting users to register on luthermusic is a really bad move. Singapore music market is already so small and limited and yet you enforce more restrictions in buy/sell in classified. I dont get the point. Its slowing down the whole second hand market. Maybe this is done to do the dealers and secondhand dealers more good, but this is definitely bad for consumers like us.

Look at usa classified, theres like hundreds of ads per day, of cos alot of junk/prank. But then, thats how the free market should be. It encourages the volume and hence the liquidity of the market.

May it be overpriced, spam ads etc, as long as the market is moving fast, it do the consumer good. We cant help when some kids abuse the classified, but then as buyer/seller we have to use our common sense and judgement in dealing. Ppl learn, dont they. Why worry about this and slow down the whole market.

My experience is that its harder for me to get my gears off now as compared to last time. And also i feel the whole second hand market is crippled. Remember last time there luthermusic, yahoo ads and soft. What happened to Yahoo ads? only 2 or 3 dealers are selling their stuff there, i think u know who. Now luthermusic is restricting the use of the classified. Of cos SOFT is doing well in this situation. Sometimes i really wonder if this is the strategy that the local dealers employ to their advantage.

Nonetheless, I am grateful to Luther for setting up the classified since a long time ago. That was the great move! Singapore and some malaysian musicians owe this to luther. SOFT being free and easy is great for all of us. SOFT just get better everyday! But one thing i feel that forum is slower than ads in terms of time to transaction.

No offense to any party. Just my thoughts.

Methink yahoo auctions is ruined by the scammers there. check out the 'Fenders' and 'Gibsons' that go for SGD$500 region.

The scammers change their nick from time to time and i hope no one get conned by them.

I have to agree that soft has seen a rather inmature crowd lately.
Almost all of my (selling)posts will recieve offers from people who
want me to "hold" the item for them for like a few weeks before
they can deal.

The most common sense thing to do is of course ignore them, same
as with those people who give ridiculous offers. What really pisses
me off is when I want to buy stuff.
Got the cash, wouldn't mind the travelling, and the tu-lan thing is
to hear some reply that goes like, "Oh this pedal is reserved till
next Deepavali, if the offer doesn't go through I'll get back to you"

Do you guys get offers to "hold" stuff often? Or is it just me?

seekz,

i also faced the same problem of the item that I want to buy being reserved or on hold. it can be challenging to make a decision especially if you need to decide to buy this pedal/guitar/amp from seller A or that pedal/guitar/amp from seller B.

i remember my dealings during the luthermusic class ads days are mostly based on first come first serve basis, i.e. whoever goes down to collect the item first gets it, so is very easy to deal. but i guess it all comes down to the seller's decision and we have to respect that, whether we like it or not.

Hi guys, I think this comparision between SOFT and Luther is just kopi talk lah. Coz both are just service provided for the music community. FREE OF CHARGE!!

From an admin point of view, having users to register is a way to curb abuse. We want to have a good party and not spending hours cleaning up the mess all the time.

SOFT is an online thingy while Luther's main business is retail.

Haiz... if only SOFT get 1% from each successful transaction in the Buy/Sell section.
