Small Tube amps to recommend..

I thought you tried it and loved it ?
So what do you think

I didn't really "experiment" the whole thing.. but I jus kind of like the tone.. and it seems the volume is jus slightly above what usually i play.. but.. what is affecting the volume? And the price is sure no joke..

Nice tone...hum like a bee but a great amp to own..the humming can easily be minimised.

do check Ibanez's Valbee amp if it's within your means...

Thank so much.. Finally understand what going on..
So conlusion is 15 watt is already out of point for tube amps..
So I will get a 15 watt.. supposing vox night train or anything is SV.. We test it when I have time..

and I suppose I got people to help me.. I know a bunch of musician actually..

For Cabs.. Any good recommendation?

You have no idea what's going on right?
a 15 watt tube amp is loud enough to blow your house off, get a 100 watt tube amp and you can blow your HDB block off.
Instead of looking for a cab, why not settle for the tube combo amps? not like you have the budget for a stack anyway.

my advice is to save the $$
Go around trying ( shops / friends etc )
one day when you know what you want, then get it ...

Cause you definately don't know what you want.

No harm getting stuff now... but you will probably B&S them ... cause you definately
don't know what you want : )
But some of us actually enjoy B&S .... i know i do !!

Have fun

Wait... wait...

Do you understand how the wattage correlates to perceived volume?

And how a more efficient speaker will make the perceived volume louder than a less efficient speaker?

Assuming the speaker is the same,

X% louder = 2^log10(P2/P1) * 100%

40 watts is 94% as loud as 50 watts.
30 watts is 86% as loud as 50 watts.
25 watts is 81% as loud as 50 watts.
22 watts is 78% as loud as 50 watts.
20 watts is 76% as loud as 50 watts.
18 watts is 74% as loud as 50 watts.
15 watts is 70% as loud as 50 watts.
Quoted from: http://www.amptone.com/g112.htm
... etc.

And I can tell you that the above is true.

So if 25-30W is too much for you, I'd think 15W is too. Because
15W is 85% as loud as a 25 amp.
The 15% can be easily met using a more efficient speaker.
Or a 25W amp can be brought down to 15W(using a more efficient speaker) levels using a less efficient speaker.

Don't worry so much about the watts, worry about how the amp will sound at your playing level.

Yes, this is true. To run a 15W amp at 15W means running it on full volume. What is important to note here is that at lower volumes, a 15w amp will still be softer, and much nicer sounding than a 50W amp at low volumes.

Usually, (for discussion's sake), the usable volume on a 15W amp is at Volume 1 to 1.5 on the volume knob And that's because the circuity for the 15w amps is designed to let is run nicely at low volumes. The volume of 1 to 1.5 of a 50w amp will not sound as nice, and will still be much louder than the 15 watter.

Of course, the optimal wattage for bedroom levels is 5w, but a 15w will suffice, if your bedroom is at least of a decent size.

Usually wattage indication is the power @ onset of distortion.
So not exactly at full volume, but at full clean volume.

Small Tube amps to recommend..

I recently get myself a Greco Les Paul Custom and I intend to upgrade my amps too.. I realise playing with a tube amp and soild state is very different.. From my experience playing the tube amp at Marc house, the tone is jus so great =)) So, I came to a point that I realise I should get a tube amps instead of a soild state..

Rephrase the crap i say..

I am currently holding to a 50 watt Peavey Acoustic amp.. *Epic Fail*

I would wan that kind of tube amps which can give me a little overdriven kind of tone..

My house is small.. but I wan something middle, neither too big nor too small

Ps: Updates, I play anything.. from blues, Jazz, Rock, Metal..

Budget, $300- $500 X (I will sell some of my gears.. Gibson pickups, guitars..)

SO NEW BUDGET IS : $900 or more..
Any recommendation?

Let's just face the facts shall we because you are plain stupid and you try too hard.

U sir is probably some emo fail at guitar and hides out in the basement with a computer at home. Perfect clinical portrait of a forum troll.
TS is just asking opinions, who are u to say he is stupid?

with hope to bring this thread back to topic .....

I tell you a small discovery that not many people realise
most of those small tube amps that people review .. say buzzing sound etc
the amps do not sound bad... its the small speakers they are paired with.

If you connect to a nice 2x12 or 4x12
then you can play softly, but get nice full tone at low volume.
The trick is the softer level you play = the bigger speakers you need !!

(of course this equation is not linear... but true to a certain extent)

Have not read the earlier posts. But have you tried the Blackstar HT-5? The clean is OK, but the overdriven channel is really pretty good. Only 5W but decent for home and studio use. Try to fiddle with the ISF knob. It can get you from Marshall to quasi-Mesa type of sound. Get the head with the 1x12 cab. IMO, it sounds better than the combo version with a 10" speaker.

Btw to those experienced with tube amps and viewing this thread, i have a quick question to ask which might be relevant to junhao405 but ain't worth making a new thread for.

TUBE AMP A :Imba onboard distortion/overdrive but bad cleans

TUBE AMP B:Imba cleans but barely no overdrive/distortion

Which would be better then? For heavier music. But won't lose out to versalitilty.

Just get A and be done with it? Or get B which is good for pedals, run it clean and pair it with a good metal distortion pedal.

+1, Woodworkz sound engineering still has one of these left. Mr Ram demoed to me,and like the above poster said, good cleans and INCREDIBLE overdriven sound. Goin at 499 or 599 i forgot which. hope this helps :P

Not too sure about your last statement, I thought ANY amp with big speakers is good if you're looking for a fuller sound. Haha...

However, I agree that switching from the stock, smaller sized speakers to a decent sized speaker, the changes are quite drastic. Like when I installed the speaker out on my valbee and played it thru the greenback, it was heavenly. Nice low end, nicely rolloff highs (the extreme highs, i.e.). Very full sounding! Turns out the Valbee is a pretty nice, hardy (no problems so far), feature packed practice amp.
