no offense to anyone on the forums or indeed anyone in this world but...

if they would take so much effort to discourage muslims from eating pork, why not put in equal amount of effort in discouraging them from smoking?

Let me correct some misconceptions... (just my 0.025 rupiahs)
1. Muslims are FORBIDDEN (Haram) from eating pork and consuming alcohol

2. The mosques are doing just that (discouraging) things detrimental to ones health. Smoking is not haram but it is strongly discouraged. The congregation is always reminded.

3. Smoking is a personal choice. Just like sinning. You 'pay' for it later Hehehehe.

4. careful....your post might have been misconstrued that ALLL muslims smoke (?)

i just think that since smoking is much more detrimental to health than eating pork, i just can't see why they would place a ban on eating pork but only choose to 'discourage' smoking.

well, that's just my opinion.

perhaps it's just their way of teaching that i have failed to understand. but i'm just a 17 year old boy. who am i to evaluate and attempt to rate the effectiveness of a religion that is several thousand years old...



not all muslims smoke. just like not all chinese people are buddhists. i'm old and mature enough not to make such a dumb stereotype.

i do think, though, that to a large extent, some 'leaders' do make use of religion of all sorts to manipulate peoples' thoughts and get them to commit to their own cause.

often, this results in the most violent and unthinkable of actions.

yes,you are correct. In fact,in my fellowship of meditators, there are caucasians,indians,and i am trying to get some malays into my Sunday sessions. We just meditate on 'Nothingness' Anyone keen to join?

I don't smoke myself but people like George Burns amaze me.

ps As I said, I am not an expert on my own religion but I know that the reason why pork is forbidden is that it's the only animal which eats all types of excrement including its own. ;)
