nope..no experience in that...just what i have heard from bands....what is your advise then??

My advise (sic) is I thought you had some personal experience to share and some information to dispense lah...

I thought you could share with us on how we could get our self-funded and self-produced albums in major music retail outlets like HMV, Sembawang, etc. lah. without the distribution power and channels of the major labels here.

I also thought you could also share with us on how we can get the interest of overseas labels. But these overseas labels are independent labels or major labels as well? Cause quite a few indie labels use the majors as distribution channels as well.

How? What's your advice?

Because shelf space = revenue generating spaces.

A local album which can probably move around only 10 copies (if they are lucky!) per store with absolutely no marketing budget (i.e. giveaways like premiums, posters or standees - which spaces in the store have to be bought. Yup, no free lunch in this world.), whereas compared to Madonna's album which can move more than 300 or much more.

Why would anyone go with a product that doesn't move?

Somemore, those Madonna CDs which cannot be sold MIGHT be able to be exchanged for another product like Muse's latest album.

Your self-funded CD can be exchanged for what other products?

Local music doesn't sell lah...

I think your seld-funded and self-producd album must be of a certail standard first...No point mentioning all this local album don't sell stories when you have a crap product in your hands....Most bands here don't have a good album..that is the reason..not that the shops don't want to carry the product..Maybe you should go back to the drawing baord and re-evaluate the product you have at hand again..

True true... I agree with you.

But what constitues a good product and what constitutes a bad one? Discuss. [25 marks]

"But what constitutes a good product and what constitutes a bad one? Discuss. [25 marks]"

There is no 'bad' or 'good' CD, it all lies in the people who are looking at your CD cover.

Anyway how do we start wif all tis signing up thing??? i mean mus we make a demo first den send it to some recording company???
