Would you buy a signature model?

Call me shallow, but I bought an Yngwie Strat because I love Yngwie, I think it was kind of secondary that it also happens to be an excellent well-made guitar with a scalloped neck that happens to be reasonably good value.

In further shallowness, I would never buy a Good Charlotte (what's his name? Billy Martin?) PRS, nor a K7 Munky Ibanez or a Tom Delonge whatever because I hate those artists and what they embody. <oh I will get a lot of flame for this> irrespective of whether these are good instruments or not.

Sorry for my honesty here. :) It's not so totally black and white though - I'm sure a Jimmy Page Ltd. edition Tom murphy-aged guitar is an excellent piece of kit (JP also happens to be my all time favourite musician and guitarist) - I just think that a bit of a waste of money.

Hmm.

I guess for me I lust for the Stevie ray Vaughn strat because it has a pretty functional feature: the lefty tremolo, which is not available on alot of guitars out there (unless of course you get a lefty guitar).

But I have tried it before, and the tones are just *orgas*

agreed..the SRV is one of the most beautiful strat out there..

dude... if u played the k7 u might eat ur words... its quite good...

i agree with shredcow on the caparison... but i prefere the delinger-7 series...

about signature models like jem...

i donno much bout the jems... BUT.... theres a huge difference between the universe and a normal rg-1527.. although some might argue that j-customs are much more worth the money... then again... can we afford j-customs?

no, I won't. I'm confident that I will never buy one, whether it was a "quite good" instrument or even a "stunning instrument" (which it isn't). I have played one before btw. :)

Oh, and - let's not forget Les Pauls! Les Pauls are *signature guitars*!

I wouldn't mind the K7 only because.

Its got the origial Lo pro Edge7 system on it. Even till today. The only Ibanez to have the Edge.

BUT.

It has a K7 logo. It has that Korn-y-ness in it. So.

Nope.

Hmm.

The other signature model which I constantly GAS for is the Burns Brian May signature model.

I saw one specimen in Italy and man... 8O

1 brand where a signature guit can make a big diff is epiphone.

The price difference is not too from their normal models. However the upgrades from the signature models are worth it. Usually grover tuners and Gibson pups.

Signature or not, it's all whether if the features and design fits what i'm looking for....then comes the neck playability. Of course if the price is inflated way too high due to branding and endorsement, I might be better off keeping my options open and look around harder or modify certain aspects of a stock guitar if it's possible 8)

Ahem.. I have one..

You're mostly right, the guitar is a fine piece of work. The pickups could be better, though.. The more I use it, the more I'm starting to feel that the Texas Specials don't really cut it. Other than that, the guitar is a dream. I got it mainly for the neck's back profile.. Solid and chunky!!

if i had the cash, i'd get the caparison apple horn.. 27 frets!! and even in the photos, it looks like its put together really well..

To me the more interesting sig models are the ones that rework the original formula in completely new ways, functionality or looks wise.

Personally I have my eyes on the Yamaha Troy Van Leeuwen and Fender John 5 guitars!

And what... 3 pages and no pics? Come on you guys! :D

Fender's John5 sig is an intriguing re-make of a classic tele- quirky but likeable in terms of playability & tone.

however, the Mexican version depicted above isn't as inspiring as the American:

Ah that's the one subversion... can't do without the Bigsby. Hmmm interesting I didn't know they had 2 John 5 models out. I assumed the Mexican one was a redesign.

i dun really like having a signature guitar ... as when u playing at gig with the signature guitar , spectator always give the impression that u can play like them ... i had one experience whereby i use this pgm and go gig with it and play soulfull piece of solo ... one of the spectator tell me on the end of the gig that i dun do shredding like paul gilbert and i dun deserve the guitar . that's why until now still trauma . :(

tell the next person who say you dont deserved to use that guitar(or any signature guitar), you pretty much dont like the music of the person whose name is on the guitar.

Reason why you want to use the guitar is to insult that signature guitar and continue to butcher it musically while leaving the worshippers of that famous sig guitar LPPL/angsty on having someone who dont like but yet having it and playing with it. Or best, carve your name it over the signature!
