short film

great, some new posts!

David lynch is great but he started out just like every other filmmaker, making films for the mainstream crowd. Although he's arguably doing the same thing now, but at least he's keeping it real. (fuc.k product placement) The Elephant Man is still a heartbreakingly awesome ironic movie though.
it's great ... this youtube no? it's like the world's entire media memory is stored in some strange ethereal space ready to be regurgitated in pristine untainted 3 inch screens.

that's what i've been saying man, and one day youtube is going to take over the world. but no one's listening. people will be stucked in cramped rooms and being forced to re-watch horrible videos of their worst nightmares reincarnated as youtube vids where teen kids try to act kawaii and speak jap on webcam.

nice silent short. Good composition and primitive use of freeze frames. I especially liked the blocking and how everything seems so fluid. Also I love how everyone in the bar scene goes out of their way to express themselves. it's like a horrible silent dream/nightmare.

I like blonde redhead and miranda july, though I've heard of only '23' and seen 'Me and You and Everyone We Know'. Miranda july is cute and reminds me of other indie darlings like Parkey Posey or Julie Delpy.

keep the idm music videos coming, I love watching them. Chris Cunningham is awesome. Windowlicker is phenomenal.

also that predator rap is just gold. I love Predator, it's THE 80's action movie. it's basically a golden pile of awesome quotes and testosterone-fueled action. 300 has nothing on it.

"buncha slack-jawed faggots we got around here. this stuff will make you a sexual tyrannosaurus!"

oops forgot the linkz

here's an animation from rene laloux, the guy behind fantastic planet
YouTube - Rene Laloux - "Les Escargots"
it starts decent enough, but gets progressively creepier. the snails are going to rule the world one day, i'm telling you! *puts on tinfoil hat*

here's a couple of creepy/nonsensical music videos from The Knife:
YouTube - Silent Shout
YouTube - the Knife - Heartbeats

also a scene from akira, the anime that sparked the wave of japanophile craze that's still around till today
YouTube - Akira - motorbikes scene

ha! that goofy film is hilarious. it's all about the edits and music.

The knife are great! They're less tacky than some of the newer electro groups. I managed to get a copy of the knife's Deep Cuts album with bonus dvd for some sale price at gramaphone a while back. Really great stuff. Too bad they don't seem to stock the silent shout deluxe edition though.

but speaking of tacky, i love these guys. Their new album in ghost colours melds every 80s electro cliche into a dancey new order love fest. qutie simply the best thing out there.

deep cuts is great, but their heart lies in Silent Shout.

Cut Copy sounds excellent. the hearts on fire video is great...riding a bmx around while listening to your walkman, haha
checking out their new album soon.

here's a free remix copy if anyone's interested:

Yeah that cut copy album is my album of the year. I don't quite like most of the electro bands out there, because they seem to leave out the melodic part of the equation that's behind the songs and just concentrate on the getting that sound.

Managed to dig these guys up

YouTube - Red Flag - Russian Radio

It's brilliant.

eh, i'm more of a fan of the electroclash era/sound. it's somewhat easier for me to digest, since I didn't grew up in the 80's.

YouTube - Frank Sinatra
YouTube - Felix Da Housecat - Silver Screen
this one I absolutely <3, it's dark and totally chill - YouTube - Rippin Kittin

edit: i just realised that rippin kittin video is actually pretty cool. not sure if it's official or fan-made but it has a pretty great forward/reverse split frame concept!

lol.. happycat is happy

anyway

that Fast Film short is AWESOME.. i'ved never seen anything like it before..

"Fast Film" is an animated homage to motion pictures, hand-made by folding 65,000 print outs of film frames into three dimensional objects."

yes it was painstakingly done. other than perhaps rotoscoping, it doesn't get anymore dedicated than that.
