It's really early in the morning, and I'm bored, so I decided to watch some short films I had in my hard disk. Seeing as how softies are such fans of music, I'm sure they'd enjoy the medium of short film as well. Here are a few classic, golden, local, and also experimental films I enjoy:

Dinner for one - great english slapstick comedy from 1963
YouTube - Dinner for one

7.35 in the Morning - genius spanish short
YouTube - 7:35 de la manana

Bullet in the Brain - a popular existentialism short
YouTube - Bullet in the Brain

15 - everyone's favorite local coming-of-age film, by Royston Tan. (I couldn't find the original short on youtube, so here's a music video to make things right)
YouTube - Shen Mei - 15 MV - Version 2

balance - 1989 oscar-winning german expressionist short
YouTube - Balance

rejected - great collection of hilarious family channel-rejected shorts from don hertzfeld
YouTube - Rejected - Don Hertzfeldt

tak giu - jacen tan's short i'm sure most of you have seen (check out his other works, 'Zo Peng' and 'Zo Gang')
YouTube - Tak Giu (remastered sound)

hedgehog in the fog - a great russian animation, simple and beautiful, yet deep
YouTube - Hedgehog In The Fog - ???? ? ?????? (english subbed)

madame tutli-putli - a great canadian short. features music from some of the gy!be collective
YouTube - Madame Tutli-Putli Part 1

buster keaton - the playhouse - a silent classic
YouTube - Buster Keaton - The Play House 1/3 (1921)

puppet rapist - more of a series, worth a watch
YouTube - PUPPET RAPIST - episode #1

shuffle - crazy 80's punk-influenced japanese film, from Sogo Ishii
YouTube - Shuffle (1981) #1

the follow - from a series of shorts commissioned by BMW, this one stars clive owen, directed by wong kar-wai
YouTube - BMW Film (S1E3) - The Follow

rendezvous - 70's ferrari blazing through the streets of paris, much more intriguing than my description seems
YouTube - C'était un rendez-vous

20mm Thick - a south-korean short on relationships and jealousy
YouTube - 20mm Thick

Enjoy watching! I've got more, but I don't wanna blow my load on a single post, in case nobody actually cares.

Check out this one if you haven't seen. My favorite from Jacen Tan.

that dog short is good, I think I have the dvdrip of it somewhere. Also that dream sequence in spellbound is legendary.

I trust you have seen this trippy french film with an acid jazz sountrack, la planete sauvage (it's in parts)

YouTube - David Lynch - The Alphabet
YouTube - David Lynch - Six men getting sick (six times)
YouTube - David Lynch - The Amputee

also talking about modern films, have you seen Tideland by Terry Gilliam? It seems to have mixed reviews from everyone except Japan, but I really liked it.

Ived seen David lynch's alphabet thingy.. really really creepy lol.. but thanks for the other 2 i havent seen it. My friend told me about this other David Lynch short that was showcase in a film festival about these aliens outside a house, something like that.. i dont know the title and its hard for me to find out.

I heard alot of people talking about fantastic planet and i always forgot to check it out lol.. thanks for that link and now i can watch and not forget to watch lol.

Ived seen the trailer for Tideland but i havent check out the movie and.. it doesnt wow me as much as his other films like Brazil, Time Bandits and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.. but my friend likes it so it must have been good..

Have you seen Alejandro Jodorowsky's films? especially The Holy Mountain? the best film to watch ON DRUGS.. lol just kidding. Its a really really trippy film and for those who likes trippin i recommend u this. You can watch the whole movie in Youtube.. its all there 12 parts.

good, effective short!

Hey great links. The thing with david lynch is, the run, gun, figure it out later ethos doesn't quite work out for today's filmmakers, not least of which noone's ever going to want to fund that.

i kind of like some of the maya deren stuff

YouTube - Ritual in transfigured time, Maya Deren, 1946

it's great ... this youtube no? it's like the world's entire media memory is stored in some strange ethereal space ready to be regurgitated in pristine untainted 3 inch screens.

Anyway here's blonde redhead with miranda july, a famed ( though moderately annoying ) artist,

YouTube - Blonde Redhead (Miranda July)- "Top Ranking"
and some other stuff
YouTube - Are You the Favorite Person of Anybody?

I think there was a retrospective of miranda july films held recently within the past year. Was really great.

El topo and the holy mountain is great stuff. Had a little more of the x factor compared to matthew barney's cremaster cycle. I think that amputated midget dude was a little ahem. sad .
