Sansamp GT2? A little disappointing.

Hi guys, I just purchased a GT2 and I'm quite disappointed by it. I'm into heavy chunky riffs and thick tone but when I tried it on with maximum drive, muting on it is a bit too thin and weak. Not thick and chuggy. Any ideas why? Or am I missing something? I've been playing around with the settings for 2 days now and I can't come up with a decent heavy tone. Do I need another drive to add on? I'm using an LP and only plugged on this one.

i know wat u mean, u want that pantera type of muting/riffing rite? maybe u shud use the pedal in conjunction with other distortion pedals to give the sound that u want. jus my opinion...

Haha, I've never listened to Pantera, but I was thinking more of Underoath, Saosin.

But yeah, its a bit too soft for me. Another distortion pedal? Wont it be muddy and stuff? I was thinking of adding an Overdrive pedal but I want to get the best out of this baby cause I know its better than what I'm using now. However, I read that there's two versions of the GT2? Besides the LED, is there any particular difference in tone?

you can search google for the eq settings for specific bands. like there's ac/dc type, beatles type etc.

Hey thanks man, I did that and experimented again and again, but I'm just feeling that the drive isnt enough, its a little too weak. Not much punch in the mutes.

Actually not to forget, the amplifier plays a big part as well. What amp are you using?

Hey man, I got it from you! HAHA! Anyway, I'm using a 15 Watt Ibanez Amp. I've read all the reviews and tried it myself with some friends.

Try the mesa settings, I'm not sure how chunky/bassy you want. But when I jam at a studio using JSX half stack, I can tend to cover up my bassist; on mesa setting.

He is using a MM stingray =.=

Play around more, you'll get what you want.

Hey, yeah, I'm always on the Mesa's settings and it sounds nice chord wise. Hairy and middle gain like. But when I'm trying solos, or muting, its a little weak. Not enough sustain, thin. But its better than my previous setup for sure.

I'm just thinking, what I'm saying is it lacks the drive or something like gain, will an overdrive pedal do? To give it more edge/gain.

Oh yeah, the drive on 12 O'clock doesn't have much of a difference than at full max.

Tried boosting my mids, it was as muddy and I wasn't happy with the tone.

I'm thinking of an Overdrive with it. Any ideas although I'm thinking twice cause I'm worried it won't make much of a difference.

do turn your amp's volume up and be in the clean channel.

muddiness is caused by excessive gain. less gain will give more clarity. try from 11 o'clock gain to 2 o'clock (2 o'clock is max).

too little mids and your sound will be thin. so try to keep your mids at 10 o'clock at least.

your pedal's volume level shouldn't be set too high, try to keep it 12 o'clock at most and adjust your amp's volume instead.

Yes, I understand, I've already played around with it. It just feels that I want more drive with this pedal. Basically that's my problem, more drive to get those chuncky, full sound when I mute them for riffs. What I'm getting now when muting is just this simple, thin sounding mute. More drive, more fullness.

An overdrive pedal would do that? I've tried adding on a distortion with DS-2 but it all sounded to noisy and stuff. So, I don't think an added distortion is the way to go.

I just want more drive.

How did you go about adding a DS-2? Care to explain more, like the gain setting on each pedal, eq and volume?.

You can try stacking it with a Boss SD-1. You do know how to stack right?.

Hmmm. May I ask, are you using the newer version or the first version? Cause in my opinion, there is really quite a bit of difference between these two, especially if you're using the California channel.

SD-1 is a good choice as mus has mentioned. Another one to look into would be the much talked about tubescreamer. I've had good results running my modded TS7 into an OLD version GT2.

Bro i think your facing the same problem as i. When i tested out the Sansamp gt2 over at tymc it sounded great enough distortion and chunk. However when i plugged it in my shitty peavey amp it sounded worlds apart. So i got my friend to check it out surprisingly it sounded way better on his roland jazz chorus. So man what i suggest check your amp theres no way to make a lousy amp sound good even with boutique pedals.

Hi there, oh, I'm not sure which is which in the first place. I have one with the LED on the side, not on the top. Hmm, I've been giving your suggestions some thoughts and was wondering, isn't a tubescreamer more of a Distortion than an Overdrive pedal?

Also, I was searching around these forums and came across ShredCow's post about another Sansamp user, in this case, the user was having problems similar to mine about the meaty tone and he mentioned that adding another distortion pedal would ruin the tone. He suggested getting a Boss BD-2 or Liquid Sunshine.

I think he knows what he's talking about and I sure as hell am reading more about so called low-drive pedals to beef up GT2. So, I'm looking at them now.

Any experiences with them?
