Reliable tube amps?

You're kidding right?:p How many arm and legs we need to sell before can afford one? Might as well go buy a Two Rock... Or better still! Hunt for a Dumble!

Would like to try a Trainwreck though... Nice amps, as I've heard...

when i said MUST, means MUST hear. not must BUY!!!!

hahhaha

wow j_m_s, not bad u managed to take his 100+ budget and refer him to vox's, fenders, marshalls and mesas.

If you read my post carefully..

anyway, @ the TS. IMO, just save, no point getting something you don't like and like everyone else has said. 100+ for a tube amp is very very very hard to find. Just play what you have, improve as you go along and save. You could also go around trying out the different flavours of amps available from Voxes to Fenders and marshalls to mesas and what not. That way you can find what you like, and save straight for that.

I just asked him to TRY them out. Find what he likes and save for that..

@penta-tonic. Forgive me bro, I didn't read your response on the 2nd page. no hard feelings yeah?

hmm....lemme see....20K USD at least for a preowned one and that is if the owner is willing to give his up (since ken fishner no longer makes them as he has already passed on).

You can try one at TYMC, they have a ceriatone trainwreck express clone there for sale and like what Goose said they are pretty close if not better than the real thing (although nobody really knows what the real thing sounds like anyways since Ken always builds to the specs of his customers - its a custom amp building job and he tweaks each and every amp individually so no 2 wrecks sound alike). The Ceriatone is a good copy that gives a good basic Wreck foundation- fat booming notes with that clean breakup, yet it has this "loose feel" but retains clarity. You can hear how a good wreck sounds with an actual 50s les paul as demonstrated by this vid- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2_12Ler9B8

I'll not hesitate to get the Ceriatone if my budget allows but right now i need an amp that is quite a bit more versatile than the trainwreck at the moment. Its a sweet amp for nailing that old skool sound though.

I have 2 old school sounding amps already. Heh... A Fender Princeton Reverb, and a Laney VC15 (AC15 clone?). Don't think I need another vintage tone amp... Unless I sell my Laney and get a Handwired AC15 reissue... Heh.

But the Fender has everything I need, and nothing I don't need. Might just get rid of the VC15 since I don't use it...

Unless I go for a Mesa Express 5:25?

The Trainwreck, while "old skool" sounding is still very different from the amps you mentioned. Just go and try one for yourself when you get the opportunity.... ;)

The Dumble amps are also another example of that.

yeah there arent going to be anymore "real" trainwrecks anymore since ken fischer died. he did state that no clone in the market now sounds as close to his. there will definitely purist like that out there who will only insist on the real deal. and i dont think any of us have that kinda spending power

he even went to the extent of teaching his friends to build the amp but they never sound right. this is what he claims.

i've nvr tried the ceriatone trainwreck clone yet.
