Recording a 6-8 piece string ensemble

Hi, I am trying to record a 6-8 piece violin and cello ensemble. It´s for my wedding. Which is better? Pickups for all the instruments into a mixer direct to PC or capture the whole sound on a pair of stereo condensors? Anybody tried either way?

Anyway, still trying to sort things out. Having problems finding pickups now , no recorder, only one condensor, no mixer. NIGHTMARE!

are you recording this for playback during the wedding or you actually wish to record this during the wedding?
