Question on MIDI to USB cables.

and I chose the m-audio because i got it 2nd hand at $30 and I can afford to spare $30 for something 50% chances of unreliability. but so far surpassed.

just check with you guys. when i buy a midi to usb cable, the thing in between is actually an interface? just like the interface in the presonus firebox?

and does anyone know any alternatives to presonus firebox which has midi, but works on usb instead of firewire?

Hi pigubaoza,

I had used an Edirol MIDI-USB to connect between my K61 (with M1 le) and a P2 laptop running on windows 98! To my surprise, it worked very well without any latency issue. In fact, I had to sell away the Maudio one after having problems with it. Don't let cost be the determining factor...reliability and stability are what matters.

Hi guys, i just got my new PSR-e323 yahama keyboard and i found out that it can Midi- usb to my mac. thing is i only know of a Yamaha ux16 but i have not sourced the price of that, upon hearing how ex it is, im considering if i really need a yamaha ux16 or any other that you guys mentioned above Roland? pls help me out as i like to connect my macbook to my KB.

would love to hear recommendations for a midi- usb to macbook.

im also thinking of getting a samson co3u to help with my singing (Sorry if its OT) does anyone have a recommendation if i can go ahead with it or get an Audio technica AT2020 instead?

sorry n thanks, hope to get replies from my brothers and sisters here.

ux 16 is around 145 from yamaha at plaza sing. It will be much cheaper buying online if really wanna ux 16

anyway, theres mentioning of m audio, edirol one already and the cheapo sim lim square one. Next is to decide which one to get.

Anyway, i have the yamaha one and it works with what i have. Only thing is the price if buying from shop here is not worth it.

Thanks bro for the quick reply.

for me pricing is not that impt. most impt is the durability and it does it job. any of the above mentioned u recommend me to get? i jus want to connect to my mac and use it to record along side my USB microphone.

thanks

I get yamaha one coz its whats recommended for the thing iam using with.

Anyway, as long as there theres right driver written for the OS you are using the gear with. It should work. Theres nothing much to worry about. A adaptor like that, should last, since theres no tugging around or heavy handling.

Since midi is a standard protocol which manufacturer of musical product have to adhere to, any general midi to usb adaptor from various manufacturers should work as long as theres proper driver(of the midi to usb adaptor) written for the OS we are using it with.

so i shld get a ux-16 too? actually saw a 3rd party one with interface at another shop in exclesis shopping centre about 65 bucks... hmmm
