Question for Post Rockers!

As stated in the title, i would like to ask all the post rockers here at SOFT, how do u get really nice tremming tones that are biting and over the top.
Songs that are nice examples would be caspian's some are white light, joy wants eternity's existence rust, dorena's till vaning tretton and Pg.Lost's Yes i am.

So far the closest ive gotten was stacking 2 overdrives at full gain, and managed to get this tremming tone that breaks up giving it this biting edge almost crunchy.

its a bit interesting to see a gain question aiming at post rock stuff.

whats "tremming" btw?

i listen to the bands you named, but dont understand what is tremming?

One word....skillz:twisted:

2 overdrives at full gain
i will not do that!
More gain / dirt / saturation is gonna get muddy and noisy ...and that "really nice tremming tones that are biting and over the top." is pretty much lost.

Reduce your gain but increase the volume and tone of your dirt pedals and tweak your amp to achive the above.

btw most of these kinda bands use Med/high gain amps...

i hope this helps.

wtf is "post rock"?

where have you been bro

back in 1991/92, a band slint was refered to as post rock by some music journalist in response to their album review

along the way, many other bands came about, playing instrumental music with no guitar solo or useless words. Each piece of music is a collective of sound, scenario, situation and some memories playback.

Use a good drive, something that doesn't compress the signal too much. Add some reverb after the drive, and a touch of delay to soften the edge. Mess around with the reverb times till you get something usable/nice. Less gain and more master volume on the amp is also good advice.

I love post rock.....its just beautiful to listen to bands like mogwai, explosions in the sky and russian circles who are able to transcend the boundaries of traditional and instrumental progressive rock to bring music to us mortals who are able to listen and enjoy. No two individuals would intepret a post-rock song in the same way.

Of course, your typical run of the mill guitar shredder and guys who think that guitar solos make up gist of the song will not understand what i am talking about.

Ppl got time to listen to other things in 91/92??? Especially with Guns And Roses on the horizon?;)

yup, i agree with you. I was into GnR then as well, but i was only 15, then, so cant blame me

it was only 10 over years later or so after 92, then i understand what i have been missing out, since then till now, i never look back, only forward and beyond. Learning to let go of things which are destined to be a thing of the past.

That happens to me when I listen to Joe Satriani... Is that post rock?

heh, nope, he no post rock. He is guitar player. You are post rock, coz you feel emo from listening to him.
