Quality of MIM Fenders?

How is the quality of the MIM Fenders?
The Fat Strat I saw in Swee Lee was pretty bad. The metal for the 5-way switch was corroded!
Those of you who own MIM Fenders can you share your experiences?
Thanks.

Well I don`t own one but I checked them out at Swee Lee. The neck and feel is ok to me, nothing super, but IMO, the price is really too high for me. I`m better off getting a Yamaha Pac 112M, the neck and feel on it is super-duper great! And the price is right too!

I don`t see why I have to pay so much for a world famous brand name....

Just my opinion...: ) don`t flame me....

The workmanship is ok but don't compare to MIA one. The pickup is what i don't like. The corroded metal one, must be a display set for a long while, ask for a new piece if you want to buy.

Swee Lee is, unfortunately, reknown for putting age old guitars up there. Rusted strings, rusted hardware, price tags with the date in the 80's....

Just ask for a new piece. If they don't have it get them to re set up that guitar for you completely. If they want to charge... well, you can easily convince them about the condition of the guitar.

The MIM i got, wasn't from sweelee, but from luther when they stocked them a while back. Having said that, they don't have any rust and stuff whatsoever on any part, well maintained that is.

I found everything about it great, except for the pickups. As usual, the 60 cycle hum can really piss you off after a while. Tolerable at first, later =

But right now, based on current offerings, you'd really should consider the MIJs.

LOL! the last time I ever asked for a new piece, they said they're out of stocj and this was the last, so I bought it. Next day I came along, saw my guitar there, new piece. Damn, Yamaha  .

I assume here you're talking about Swee Lee.

Like I said, if they claim there's no new piece, then get them to set it up properly for you. Inclusive of compensation / replacement of faulty parts.

As an owner of a MIM Power Strat, I can say that the guitar is fundamentally very good but it does require a good setup. This is essential IMHO.

The rusted stuff you were talking about could be due to Swee Lee... too many guitars to display, not enough TLC to go around. So the guitar just displays there, collects dust and rusts.

i got my 70s classic series MIM from guitar gallery..was in perfect cond...great stuff but only thing gg's prices are steep..other than that they take really good care of their stuff unlike SL.

I don't think luther has the mexican units anymore. They carry more of the Jap stuff. Since the price range of the Jap instruments are similar to the mexicans, just give them a shot. Sweelee's mexicans leave much to be desired of.

I think MIM Fenders are really overpriced in Singapore, would take a MIJ J-craft Fender anyday from Luther or G77. Save a lil' more and get the MIJ Fender. A whole lot more quality for a lil' extra cash. I was around looking for a vintage 50's reissue Strat from Fender. Tried the 50's MIM Strat, 50's MIJ strat and the 57' MIA Strat, went with the MIA.

some MIM's workmanship are screwed but there are real good ones around. Slight inconsistent quality control there. Examine some MIM's neck pockets where the neck joins the body, well crafted ones have smooth edges. I have seen those with gaping gaps....
Otherwise the rest of the guitar is fine. My strat was acquired directly from US for a really good price, specially handpicked too. Now i use it for practice.

In terms of tone, the stock pickups sound thin and lack warmth. recommended for change to SDs or custom shop pickups. The feel of the neck is comparable to MIAs or MIJs but not as smooth,

My only gripe about the MIJ Fenders is the 7.25" fingerboard radius, vintage sized fretwire and 21 frets. For a few bucks more, Reverend guitars are DA BOMB!!!

not all Jap Fenders sport such specs- the Aerodyne has 22 medium jumbo frets...
