Qns on pro guitarists' gear list

Gr3y: Chill you're being oversensitive. To each his own. How does saying only once that MJ looks guai lan after his numerous plastic surgeries turn the thread into anti-mj? It was just an example please. The "Lol" emoticon must have added insult to injury. Thanks.

I read somewhere that in a guitar rig, the amp is like the engine of the car... the guitar is just the steering wheel.. and the pedals are just well, erm, pedals to step on the gas... I think its a pretty good analogy.

Haha...interesting. So going by this analogy, which is better?

1. a BMW with a regular steel plate rubber covered accelerator? OR

2. a Cherry QQ with an Italian designed sports chrome plated accelerator?

when we look at the gear list those pro guitarists like vai, satch, jp, pg, morse, etc. r using, it seems like most of them r using some basic/common gears like ds-1, boss od, digitech whammy, ce-5,ch-1, dunlop wah, and yet there isn't much fancy high-end stuff that quite a few softies r using.

Actually, back to the actual pre-observation, you are not exactly correct so say that they use common gear. Your observation stems from their pedal usage only. Note: they use big amps in their concerts, and they probably use a mix of digital equipment and specialized recording tools for their album works.

It's almost fatalistic to even think that gain pedals sound the same through different amps, even if you take a lot of other things such as technique, cables, environment, sound engineering out of the picture.

As also noted, a lot of other factors play into the final signal you hear from the professionals.

And on another note, I do agree with what another guitarist said to me: that the professionals, if you note, a large bulk of them use stuff such as BOSS pedals - simply because they are durable on the road. Actual reproduction of recording tones may be secondary; otherwise you would be seeing Eric Johnson pull out an ES335 on Cliffs of Dover.

btw, these topics are WAY overdone. Can we get on to something more practical and useful?

snuffleupagus ... too used to my ME30 settings, prior to that I was using Boss BE 5 and before that the boss 6 pack indiv effects.

I have tried any other multi pedals before including zoom, digitech, ibanez and some other cheapos but didnt like the tones.

For ME 30 you gota tweak the parameters but once choon choon dun - its great!

woah, bro shred, why you wanna diss slash and practise amp. Iam so sad that you said that. Its because of you that i wanna play guitar, but to see you write something like that, i think i gonna give up guitar and play chinese flute instead.

Its all YOUR fault, shred!!

Actually true.

When young in your guitarist life, we seek the impossible thru the only possible means we have.

A $200 guitar into a $200 amp via a $15 cable and we hope to sound like a pro that has a few k of equipment.

So many start by seeking emulate than to improvise - that is but the standard way of most budding players!

So I was wrong to diss. Pathein is right.

Chinese flute is the way to go dammit!
