PUNK have always co-existed in society. It's the freedom for individuals to define the term PUNK which led it to become a humanity subject. There is no right or wrong in PUNK. It's how we view it. Some define PUNK as breaking from the norm. Others, a struggle for freedom & peace. It is not a necessity for oneself to don leather jackets with Crass at the back or marching the streets demanding Anarchy. Anarchopunk band, Conflict themselves had quoted, "you can protest til' death, they won't listen". PUNKs remained rhetorical after that. On the other hand, a group of PUNKS were pre-occupied in providing for the needys as 'FOOD not BOMBS' activists . Being humane as they are, the PUNKS went further to support ALF to fight against animal testing. DIY labels and zines were born too.
In Singapore context, we must not judge a PUNK by the colour of their laces, nor the sleeves of their jackets. The music they choose to hear or play. Each and every PUNK have their own cause. Their own struggle.Their own personal war. Some are just too young to understand what is PUNK all about. It's too wide a spectrum of events to take note. Hope one day these youths would read more and grow up to be a better person.
Til to date, PUNK continued to evolve. The look n music may change, but the ideology remains.
P/s:I am a PUNK myself. I'll continue to be one~
