Found this interesting diagram over the week. Premier Guitar claims that it is similar to how Les Pauls of yore were wired.

The author claims that:

First, the overall tone gets stronger and more transparent. It’s difficult to describe, but perhaps saying it’s more “in your face” would be a good way to describe it. Second, the typical treble loss that occurs when rolling back the volume is much less, and both the volume and tone controls react more smoothly and more evenly, without the typical hot spots. As a side effect, it’s easier to clean up an overdriven amp by simply rolling back the volume on your guitar a bit. As always this is a matter of choice, but it’s definitely worth a try.

Going to try it out over the weekend with my Japanese Strat, rather than the American one. The American one is too much of a hassle to do any soldering in the area of the 5-way switch, volume and middle tone pot, unless it's major work, or a matter of life and death.

I don't have a formula lahhh :P This is the only finish i know how to apply! Heh.

Tru Oil does (sorta) age ... turns into a deep golden hue with time. Certainly mellows and highlights figured maple methinks.

Hey shred, Does the wood dent easily with tru oil compared to satin finish? Thinking of redoing my Ibanez neck with Tru oil, since it's now oiled with danish oil.

really? u sure you didn't feed the guitar to the powerful rays of the sun? Cos for solid colours, sure alter the finish (usually in a bad way). interesting, eh eh intro your source can ^^? buy from u also can haha!

The oil finish is WAY thinner than poly. There's also no need for a layer of sealer. So yes. It will dent easily.

Hmmm... actually hor, I never left the tru oil-ed guitar out in the sun for too long.

No source lah - gotta get from Ebay. See whoever is willing to ship it to you. :)

This isn't as in-depth as my previous stuff, and can't really compare to some of the others in this thread, but anyway...

So I decided I should actually learn some guitar basics, might be useful in a band, and I grabbed a strat copy 2nd hand...

My first idea was that I would try veneering it, but it didn't turn out too well, so I removed that, and then went back on my self-imposed ban not to use spraypaints anymore:

It's basically a metallic gold - candy tone red - opaque metallic black sunburst, but with a pearl purple layer over it so it's tinted purple. The purple-ness depends on the angle.

Then I swapped out the pups... Hot Rails in neck, Stack plus in middle, and some funky humbuckers I had lying around in the bridge.

Volume pot replaced with a push-pull to center-tap the stack plus.

This is the end result. Heh it's not as shiny since I really didn't want to do all that hardcore polishing again, and the finish is a little uneven (although not as much as the photos show- that's due to lighting and stuff).

Now I need to start working on my guitar skills!

Sadly at this point of time I don't really have the time to work on that... plus this is mainly a practice 'prototype' for my next project when the rest of my parts come in!

Well done again Composer, we look forward to more of your 'prototype' projects...
