Pots

What guitar do you have?

Due to differences in the metric measurement system, US made pots wouldnt' fit in asian made guitars, and vice versa - the asian made pots will be a loose fit.

But off the cuff, I would say Dimarzio pots @ Swee Lee. $15 a pop but they are the hardiest, sturdiest pots I've tried yet... I PRACTICED soldering on 1 and it still works to this day. I like the taper too, very smooth...

buts THESE ARE singapores. We pluralise everthings we says or dos.

Grammers men, Grammers!

Anyway, Edder, your inputs on this pot thing please?

I've had bad experience with CTS pots while others have found them excellent... Then there's RS Guitarworks' special custom pots. Then those.. who's that guy... 40USD per pot one...

my take. damn... i hate questions like this. forces me not to be dodgy.

CTS industry standard whatever that really means. Everyone uses it. I've use em before, installed em before and sold em before. OK lah. Not bad what.

Now what I REALLY like are ALPS pots. Miniature SEALED pots like those you can find on pedals.

Here you go a picher.

If I had a choice, I'd use these pots for all my guitar/pedals etc but costs and non standard size. I don't have the quantity to order like a 1000 of em to make the price attractive.

G&L Asat thinline with a humbucker in the bridge position; the existing push/pull pot is not working well; it doesn't lock in the down position sometimes.

yesh yesh ...i love those ^ ...bloody alpah only entertains large orders !!

you CAN buy them at Farnell at a premium price.... and they is ALPS lah! not ALPHA! different brand you knows!

I've calculated, if I build pedals on SMALL quantity and charge a bit for em (eg NICE PROFIT MARGIN) I CAN use these pots.

But I don't, so I use the next best, Meggitt.

Eh!

The mini pot looks NICE!!! Can I use them? :D

What is the trade off if I were to use the small pots and a big, full sized one? More fragile?

Belbel, your G&L, if its Made in America (I dunno), just go get the Dimarzio pushpull pot (@ Swee Lee) or the CTS pots (in the shops @ Penni, packaged under AllParts). If its Japanese/Korean/Chinese made, get the Gotoh pushpull pots from Davis - not very sturdy but they will do.
I dunno about your pot value, guessing its 500k.

Of course you can... but you must find the right value and the right taper and must find the RIGHT person who have experience to solder the little pins

Those pots are fragile only during soldering. In use I think it can last VERY much longer and they turn smooth like baby's butt! The pinky will RIKES!

Interesting.

I have them in mind for the interest of space - esp in Ibanez ah, the cavity is very small.

I could like... have 3 of them, in a row! How cool is that?!

.

don't evah forget your knobs! must leave a good spacing between em for actual usage... otherwise... you don't really need the knobs to be there.

Thanks Shredcow. Its made in America. Will try swee Lee.

belbel,

I'd say buy the push pull pot at Davis. Easier to get and they can rewire it for you, if not look for Beez at guitar77 to do it.

Thanks Edder. It never occured to have someone do it for me. I like to do it myself. Apart from that any reason to go to Davis?

ahh... then maybe call up Swee Lee to see if they have it in stock.

Most of the time, I can find what I want at Davis. One stop shop for parts. Thats why I recommend Davis
