poll: what u want in a studio

I think it would be good to have versatile amps like vox, line 6 or the Peavey XXL. Decent drumsets, I think drummers are just as fussy as guitarists. yea, powerful PA systm too. To me the most important part is the comfort of the room. Look at 4tones, very well kept place, feels like home man. Even the lighting also good

actually, i dont mind not having 100 watts amps. or a powerful PA system. i mean its just a room, how powerful do you want your PA system to be?

But cannot be too cramp and price along mikemann rates. or even cheaper... haha.

i agree with the "versatile amps" thing.. perhaps get some digital modelling amps. can get great tones and hence relatively cheap for gettnig all types of sounds, which will really appeal to jammers. mic stands should also be decent and not fall apart....

this is a good idea to start this business david

2 X drum sets = 1.6k?

hey!

haha i was looking abt any drum posts all along...until i found this.

1.6k for 2 drumsets is really a downer man.no offence or anything.if u'd say 1.6k for 1 drumset, thats more likely.but if 1.6k for 2 sets,u'd wud probably be aiming for carlos or maxtone and other cheap-er sets...

4k or less for drumsets...

good luck dood... :D

How much are you willing to pay to jam at a studio like this? :) We can dream of our dream studio all day long. But until we are willing to pay for such a studio... well I guess, keep on dreaming... cos the fact is that most jammers in Singapore are not willing to fork out $20 p/hr and above to jam. So without a core group of jammers, such a solid top notch studio cannot survive la. Cos the overheads and running costs would be high.

Its just business, nothing personal

Back to the main topic - There are a lot at stake in opening a jamming studio than just the rent factor. For instance, there are lots of HIDDEN costs. I know about a dozen of people who are planning to open a jamming studio this past 2 years.. Yet, where are these people? Im still eagerly waiting for their studios to be opened!

Yup its true...the market for boutique style studios have already been threaded before and there is no market for it right now here in singapore.

Studio owners cannot depend on income from these studios to survive, they usually have some other business to back them up.

Profit margin wise....it would be very small. But if you are talking abt passion and for the local music industry in singapore...it would mean a big sacrifice and salute to you.

but then again, look at fourtones! they advertise here, and when i know about it, wow it becomes one of my favourite studio.

the thing about business is they post here, and give promotions, and also make great promises such as what great equipment and ambience. never failed to make us, like disappointed? and when u actually go there u want to go back again...

so u got 1 advantage, SOFTies can come ur studio to jam!

decent equipment (doesn't have to be top end, but y'know like a Laney Tubefusion or something is pretty alright) and decent guitars (like an Epiphone or some other mid-range guitar) and most importantly good maintenence of the place and equipment. some places start off looking nice with painted walls and decent equipment, but then after a while the walls look really dirty and the guitar and amp jacks are falling off and strings are rusty and pickups are loose and it's just a horrible studio experience. it's like jamming in a dump. that's the sort of thing that makes my friends and i go on the lookout for a new place.

all i can understand... but y shoes???

what i would like is this holographic projector in the studio so that with a press of a button jimi hendrix or some other power musician will appear and jam with me... hahha.... prob my son will get that...
