pedal

imho:

an od without too much characteristic of its own, but with wide range of frequency boost cum db boost feature that will at most go into crunch territory, without being overdriven hard.

sorry, the above might not be too accurate as theres lotsa factors which i wasnt able to consider due to the lack of info, so the above just based on general preference of mine

A TS9 would be great to boost your lead or your solo through a distortion or any other tubescreamers that's available....currently, I have a TS9 to sell if u are looking for an overdrive..PM me :)

Bro, I have a different school of thought here. I for one like OD pedals with a totally different characteristic altogether. This is to allow me to have a nice blendable rhythm tone thru my distortion pedals (BOSS pedals are great for this!), and a significantly different lead tone thru the OD (with some high end boutique pedal.)

I guess this doesn't help when you're trying to copy some guy's tone. But I simply go for what I like to hear, and this setup helps for me.

Getting the right pedal, may not be an issue when you have a great amp/speaker cab ...

Example : My early MIJ SD1 sucks by itself with the gain maxxed on a clean amp. But ... on an already overdriven amp ...it's uber :cool::cool:.

Your front(guitar/skillz) and back end(amp/speaker) needs greater attention than what goes in between, as its much of a flavoring/character factor - to add to your already rockin tone.

A good amp does NOT have to be an expansive one either.

Example : Ed "the smilling tiger" has a small China Vox which totally sucked till he fitted it with a Electro Harmonix speaker, this alone made him a great amp which he used to tweak his now popular pedals. He also has a trusty SS Roland Jazz Chorus. I have a couple of other similar success stories on speaker change alone....
