overrated bands?

haha i dun think any band is overrated.....if you like them then its your personal preference. If you don den well, overrate? to each its own.

Personally i think metallica is a little overrated, they are only a shadow of their former selves now. they play classics like battery much slower these days, sadly.....

hi

hmm yeah linkin was better off in thier early days ha well i guess overrtatedness is a matter of prefrence absolutely true bt i gt to agree the statement on metallica.lol what a shame really

Personally, I find bands which have members in them trying their darndest to look 'fierce' with their tattoos, body piercing and all but play a certain brand of rock that seem to cater to only emo kids, are overrated.

I am talking about those which sounds neither here nor there.

They look like they can rock your ass off but their songs simply do not have that edge or raw energy that I, personally, like to associate with rock/heavy metal.

Bands like Good Charlotte come to my mind. I seriously don't know what to make of songs like 'Keep Your Hands Off My Girl', no offence.

I know lah that their brand of pop punk music is like marketable to young teenagers but maybe I am old liao, so cannot get it. But honestly, music like this (to me at least) does absolutely nothing for the mind. Musically, how is it even good? The vocals? Bleah. So what is it, I wonder.

Other than that, I am sure there are lots of Megadeth's fans here but I just cannot enjoy Dave Mustaine's singing, for the life of me. Not at all...

Hee hee....

Before I get slammed, I'll say "To each his own.."

Well, every musician worth their taugeh at least know who Metallica, Led Zeppelin and Guns N Roses are mah.

And millions of bands around the world are covering their songs in clubs around the world every single minute as we speak.

hmmm quite agree on the whole mainstream music thing. Good Charlotte, like heckler mentioned, is like, "meh"? my friends are like, "better than ure (non-mainstream band name)....."

seriously, i think the music i like is more erm say, mature? coz i like what older people like, not what people in my age like IE red blah blah apparatus, paramore, etc. most of them are punk rock bands. emo bands. oh my goodness.

anyway, the stuff i like are The Strokes, The Hives, John Mayer (he is commercial but hey his blues is the bomb), Arctic Monkeys (i love british guitar bands), Death Cab for Cutie, The Editors, Rachael Yamagata to name a few

I think its not the music that sucks, but the people who listen to it that do...like my friends in school, they heard RJA is stereotyped as emo, so they listen to it just to be labelled emo...anyway, why do i care?
ARCTIC MONKEYS FTW!

soon "indie" bands will become mainstream....and mainstream bands will lack popularity.Coz all the the fans of "indie" bands will be overcrowded with people who thinks mainstream music sucks. Then "indie" will become mainstream and vice versa.

Well, I am one of those who don't really see the difference.

Indie bands become mainstream bands all the time because they choose to after realising that the hey, it's nice to be more recognisable and the money's much better.

Of course, this comes from someone who is just satisfied with knowing what's nice to listen to, be surprised a little once in a while but overall do not have a strong inclination towards a particular genre. As long as it's memorable, the lyrics are not a bunch of crappy nonsense, the arrangements are fresh, it's ok.

As long as the music speaks to the soul.

So, no matter what subcultures, genres or styles some so-called independent music makers belong to, when I listen to it and I like it -

IT IS STILL MUSIC TO MY EARS..

It is all still about self-expression, emotions and universal language that affects each and every one of us in very similar ways.

Technology and the Internet have made it so easy for anyone to produce music to reach the masses. Musicians no longer have steer clear of record companies for fear of being labelled 'commercial' and 'packaged', being called 'spineless'. I believe that's partly why musicians started calling themselves indie (independent) bands.

Thus, I think the label 'indie' will slowly fade away gradually as the Internet brings us all much closer together.

2 years ago, I came across this band called Melee (who? haha). Someone on SOFT knows them as far as I could remember him posting something about him and them.
I was watching MTV Reverb recently and I was getting sleepy. Then Melee came on and the video was "Built to Last".

and... I felt happy. The song just feels so... Like they do deserve to be known, after all the effort and work they put in like most musicians. It still has the feel of them in the older songs I heard, in my opinion.

- Haley(paramore) can go look like some drag queen in Misery Business, that song still tells a story. And, that story is clear. It's understandable right from the start.
- My Guardian Angel by RJA can be as cliche, corny and 'emo-ish' as it wants to, people can still be inclined and relate to it.
- The Click 5 can be labelled boyband beatles-wannabes by some of you, but hey, they can perform Empty with all the emotions related to that song emitting out of them to the audience, or at least the lead singer does that. What quite a number of musicians/bands are lacking is emotion while performing their songs to the audience.

yes, I may be a fan of Paramore but I'm not quite a fan of the other 2. I used to think like what I've mentioned above but I just came to this realisation recently.

Music is universal. And for me, I should keep an almost open mind about it (almost because there's still bound to be things I just can't accept/appreciate/understand - eg. generally rap).
