Metallica overrated? Maybe. Sellout yes. How can u say Metallica the 'father' of thrash metal overrated, its like saying led zep is overrated. Oops i guess somebody just did. Hehehehe.. Its really subjective lah this topic. Different ppl got diff opinion. Another man music is another man noise? Hehehe..
metalyca, led zepper, and gun and rose.
I guess, to a certain extent, we perceive some bands as over-rated because we don't like them in some ways or another, but to those who love them, they don't see these bands or musicians or singers as over-rated lah.
So, we can argue till the cows come home, brush their teeth, gargle with Listerine, watch late night cartoons, read The Moo Times, then go to sleep, and we still will NOT come to a conclusion or agreement. Not that we need to, lah. But some people are more 'sensitive' to this kind of things. I just don't want people to start slitting their wrists or cry their hearts out.
It is subjective mah, music.
Some established bands have indeed proved their worth by staying popular throughout the decades, so maybe over-rated can only be applied to those one hit wonders/marketed music wannabes packaged for non-serious music listeners who follow the herd?
You can't apply these to bands like Metallica and Guns N Roses because they have proved their worth with countless hits and rock anthems and up to this day, established musicians and learning musicians still do play their songs all over the world.
People are still learning the guitar licks of Master of Puppets or Sweet Child O' Mine, no matter what is said about them. Most people know who is Axl Rose or James Hetfield, provided they have not been living under a rock in the mountains lah.
The same can't be said for a lot of the current wave of bands who come and go like nobody's business.
