overrated bands?

ha

funny thing was self mutilation(iggy pop, black metal mucians) and songs about being dumped by a girl(bon jovi, ratt) existed wayyyyy before emo was fad.lol.no offense to anyone.i jus think that well emo was already existing wayy before so i dont think its anyhting new so well here's a joke if wearing black equals emo then ritchie balckmore was emo then!man in black anyone?ha and kiss was balck metal.no offense to anyone.
overrtedness is when all the jamming rooms are playing the same song...i shant name them though.

what to do? these days, sad music is the new emo music...

i dont think emo came a long time ago. it's just a culture people came up with and associate it with the current media.

plus, it sucks to be stereotyped. i like keeping long shaggy hair and i get associated with emo (when the only emo band i listen to are old FFAF ones).

Eh someone should come up with a universal term for EMO. I personally like MCR, Paramore FOB, red jumpsuit apparatus those kinda music, but hey i also like GnR, Deep Purple, Mr Big too... I think theres nth wrong with listening to what ppl think as EMOish MCR or crap. I like MCR music( love ray's solos), and i also into Hayley's ( paramore ) singing... Dont think music should be labeled like INDIE ROCKS MCR INTO THE DUMPS or stuff..

EMO and the POP PUNK genre is way overrated. MAINSTREAM POP and HIPHOP and RAP are generally overrated stuff as well. the genres nu-"metal" and metalcore as a whole are overrated as well. as for bands specifically:

my chemical romance
system of a down
slipknot
korn
linkin park
limp bizkit
papa roach
marilyn manson
trivium
bullet for my valentine

as for "real" metal bands:
metallica (though not really metal YET until we listen to their new album, which they CLAIM to be going back to their roots)
children of bodom
pantera
dragonforce

...and the list goes on. and its blasphemous of mcr fans to throw the horns.

I guess, to a certain extent, we perceive some bands as over-rated because we don't like them in some ways or another, but to those who love them, they don't see these bands or musicians or singers as over-rated lah.

So, we can argue till the cows come home, brush their teeth, gargle with Listerine, watch late night cartoons, read The Moo Times, then go to sleep, and we still will NOT come to a conclusion or agreement. Not that we need to, lah. But some people are more 'sensitive' to this kind of things. I just don't want people to start slitting their wrists or cry their hearts out.

It is subjective mah, music.

Some established bands have indeed proved their worth by staying popular throughout the decades, so maybe over-rated can only be applied to those one hit wonders/marketed music wannabes packaged for non-serious music listeners who follow the herd?

You can't apply these to bands like Metallica and Guns N Roses because they have proved their worth with countless hits and rock anthems and up to this day, established musicians and learning musicians still do play their songs all over the world.

People are still learning the guitar licks of Master of Puppets or Sweet Child O' Mine, no matter what is said about them. Most people know who is Axl Rose or James Hetfield, provided they have not been living under a rock in the mountains lah.

The same can't be said for a lot of the current wave of bands who come and go like nobody's business.

emo = jawbreaker, fugazi, rites of spring, husker du
overrated bands = avenged sevenfold, metallica

Metallica overrated? Maybe. Sellout yes. How can u say Metallica the 'father' of thrash metal overrated, its like saying led zep is overrated. Oops i guess somebody just did. Hehehehe.. Its really subjective lah this topic. Different ppl got diff opinion. Another man music is another man noise? Hehehe..

tottally aagreed ha.thats indeed true but well true enough we may have some guilty pleasures but at the end of the day the masses who know nut about music aare the ones overrtaing the band.well the beatles split up coz the only thing they can hear wasnt their instruments..but the screaming of the girls in attendance.therefore as seirous as they were in music,in the end ppl like the the eg. bimbos, ateention seekers, hangers on are the ones responsible.no offesnse to anyone coz prsonaly i do think some emo bands are okay

Ya man.

I myself don't have a strict classification list of which bands I think suck, or fall under the wannabe label without musicianship that is at least deserving.

Some people are so like donno what until all bands associated with a certain *ehEMO* fad, they don't want to listen.

Anyway, I don't know if My Chemical Romance falls under emo but I like some of their songs a lot, and think that the lead singer is kinda cool. Heard he's talented in some sort of comic art drawing too. I love songs like 'I Don't Love You' and 'Helena', no matter what some people may say.

Again I reiterate, music is subjective anyway.
