our local talent!

eh? well yea right but i have to disagree about major scale being nescesary! u might be a prodigy and right amazing songs with even complsex solos without learninga single scale or chord

heres some history on modes.

modes date back to the 17th century. the system was used by ancient greeks . the christian church and until now us = ).

yup back then the major and minor diatonic scales werent even invented yet
ah as for why major and minor scales are mostly used.

Well depending on the genre of music that statement is true to a certain extent. play around with major scales and you get yourself some really nice pop tunes to a certain extent rock tunes. its just the structure of the scale.

the pentatonic minor is widely used in blues music ya? but the mixolydian mode. The reason prolly is cos thats the way it sounds. I,m pretty sure you could take the Dorian mode and come out with some nice jazz blues tunes but that would be the extent of our creativity. Its about feeling ya? not just plain textbook service

beats sounding like any random emo/core bands now?

Go figure, as much as ppl diss the 80s....it beats hearing non existent singing over beatbox tones to me. Then again, the music trend is strongly manipulated by what's on MTV and the airwaves nowadays.

i think the "music trend" always has been "strongly manipulated by what's on MTV and the airwaves", even in the 80s.

oh, and there's no point degenerating into yet another pointless genre-vs-genre debate.

80's rock thrives on MTV and i love every bit of it.

MTV rules. Propaganda rules. Using your ears rules.

Boney M is actually cool you know.

I do enjoy their songs and I have to admit, I bop my head to them as much, if not more than, ManOwar!
