Organisers say SINGfest 2009 could be stretched longer

heh, with free flow beer, everything can be arranged, to certain extend

well.. free beer or not... don't think we should sell ourselves short for the "publicity".. if any...

I am sure the bands know what they are getting when they decided to perform at SingFest. Let's respect their decision.

heh, e, i know what cha mean on selling short, the free flow beer part was just a tongue in cheek thingy.

as for publicity, it was for politically correct purpose, looking at it from another side of thing, which some might say.

anyway, as for the bands knowing they can get/dont get before playing, that i understand. Only gripe was that most of the locals playnig the 2nd stage, they are already pretty established in their own rights thru the years they have been playing/writting music. At least what anyone can do, when asking them to perform, entertain, is to pay. Amount perhaps not the main thing in the context here, but more of respecting them for their effort, thats to entertain.

Imho

This is the harsh reality of globalization. Local music has to compete head on with what is out there. I am sure it was a great experience. We can only become better!

maybe the organizers can mixed the local acts with international acts in both stages...so there'll be a balance...its a pity to see the local bands rocking out infront of...hmmm...nobody?

Yeah agreed , Mix local/regional act with international acts. :)

And oh, not everyone got that chance to mingle around with big acts backstage or even to their hotels. Like with pussy cat dolls. WEE! and oh, free entry / free beer / good sounds systems.. Life is great!!!

We need to start somewhere somehow. And Singapore is 43 this year. yeah!

Its on the onus of the local bands to go and work out payment with the organisers, if the band themselves have agreed to play for free, then i guess its their choice.

Sad to say, it will probably be the same thing for local bands playing next year. Payment terms will be in beer kegs.

At least they didn't pay to play.

Qoute PatheinRaindropMoe

Doesn't that make us local acts like "kuay" lidat.
begging for your member without pay? LoL

the feeling like very jian/cheap...

mwahahahahaha, if i go on any further about spreading or how to song song kao jurong, i might get banned

anyway, my point not really on the local bands, but more of the organising side.

back to spreading, that one must talk through pm.

yeaa its a good idea.
if local acts and international acts share the SAME STAGE.
so people will have to sit through them xDD

but i dont think midas cares about promoting local acts..
thats what i think of course..

anyway i think the fest is gonna get bigger and better!

about local bands recieving payment:

As long as there are bands willing to play for free, there is no reason for the organizer to get bands that want to be paid.

it's a business, not a charity! Midas cares about making profits, and I say props to them for getting something done.

And if you squeezed local bands between headliners, the crowd won't "be forced to sit through them", they'd use the opportunity to take a piss, grab a drink, take photos with their friends...

Too bad 16,000 people didn't agree with those people who didn't want to go cause the gig wasn't 'rock' enough :P

Anyway, Jason Mraz was super awesome. Fantastic band backing him up too
So was Alicia Keys. Now she was a true professional

All in all, I thought it was a pretty darn good and fun festival to go to. Not many hiccups too!
And it's surely better to have Singfest around than not to have it.

See, if there WASN'T a Singfest, SOFTies would be complaining about a lack of an international festival.
If there is a Singfest around, SOFTies would be complaining about the lack of local band support.
But in the end, at least Midas got up and did something about it.
It's certainly better than sitting around and whining in a forum about it :P

ok noted. We can move on to other threads and whine more

Heh, like days of our lives, internet forum edition

till next year singfest, bye bye this thread

And yes I agree with the person who commented that the people with money are the ones who decide what kind of line up Singfest has. When they had all the trendy metal, punk and indie bands last year they lost 1 million plus.

seriously it's time we got bands like rage against the machine ;paramore definitely here are the list on band on warped tour vans that might be most def be performing for vans underoath ;westbound train ;silverstein;devil wears prada;ataris ;hit the lights ;escape the fate and the list goes on people most are still to be announced with dates&places confirmed

well that works in USA etc where there is a big enough niche audience to sustain... but look at what happens when LAMC do Taste Of Chaos here.. Ticket sales were so poor they had to change venue at last min

If you want to catch warped tour your best bet is buy a plane ticket
