oooh classic sounding vocals, drums and guitar tone. even hammon organ. :)

i caught paul's rendition of the song at harry's once, when he called on a sax player and a drummer (think he's the guy from SSO, can't remember his name) and they brought the house down.

Yeah LOVE it!! Very groovy!!!

My only comment...some guitar solos would be nice too.

Pardon for my noobness...I only heard the rendition of this song by Buddy Guy (Damn Right I Got The Blues album).
Who's the original singer?

Taking abt blues....some of u guys suggested a Blues Jam session. I think its Popeye or BloozeGit...or was it someone else.
Any plans? Been a long time since I last jam.

We took CCR's version and re-did it a little. Yes, I agree that guitar solos would be nice, but we wanted to try something new. Not really sure who the original singer is. Haha. I am a noob too. Thanks anyway for your kind feedback! :)

Yup....an original from Wilson Pickett (hope I got his name right)

Great voice man....a bid tad higher than James Brown :) or else you'd be james brown himself..heh.

Could hear every piece of instruments playing clearly, the sax, the organ, the bass everything. Great piece :) Its a wonderful one!

Bravo!

Haha thanks again for everyone's kind words. Yes, it was hard finding our 'perfect' vocalist. He's name is Doug, and he is half negro and half british, haha. The rest of us are pure bred Singaporeans :D We probably won't gig anytime soon yet, but we'll keep everyone posted k? Thanks once more! Cheers..

Hey vege,

You guys have something good there! I've heard too many hack versions of that song and have had to play it more times than I care to recall, but I still like the way you guys did it.

For a start, the rhythm section is tight and groovy. The drummer keeps it simple (a very much underrated virtue) while the bassist fills in the gaps and plays to the groove.

Accompaniment instruments are all nicely restrained, playing little fills here and there instead of filling the whole song with notes. Nice! Your sax player has good control of his tone and rhythmic phrasing, but sounds like he's still trying to break out of the classical scales. Just keep on jamming and I'm sure he'll come through with the soulful, bluesy stuff.

Your vocalist rocks! I'm not a singer but he's got a great voice for this kind of stuff.

On the whole, it's good that you guys are leaving spaces for each other to play, something that a lot of bands (pro or non-pro) neglect. That's a great start, and perhaps you guys can build on it by trying to play off each other's ideas and be more adventurous.

Let me know when you guys start gigging! Would love to hear you live.

hey blooze

Wow, thanks for your detailed advice :) it's really much appreciated. Yes, we really love our vocalist and hope that he does not defect to another band, haha. I just feel that our rhythm section needs a little more work and we hope to fill in some of the empty gaps, or maybe not. I feel that this song should be kept simple and clean. The sax player is a friend and a sessionist, so he's not really part of the band, yet. Hopefully he decides to come onboard. It was just a wild idea to add in the sax. Guess it worked out pretty okay.

Yup I'll let everyone know if we are gonna gig, but not so soon I think. Thanks again for taking the time to check us out. Have a great day! :smt045
