O Levels Students 2009!!

ur teacher reliable not? haha. They didnt say barium nitrate. it wasnt barium nitrate that was given. barium something was given. so yea no test for sulphates? no barium nitrate given. no potassium dichromate to test for SO2. so how to test for sulphate?

so its either X:carbonate
Y:Carbonate/sulphate.

YUP!

Barium nitrate and barium chloride have the same role, finding the sulphate ion.

Actually hor, X: carbonate, Y: hydroxide.
Cos assuming X is carbonate, when you heat CO3 and CO2 is produced, all that's left inside the test tube is O, which is oxygen. (CO3-CO2= O)
Then when you add H2O to O, you get 2OH.
lol, and and i tested Y with red litmus paper, it turned blue. So yaaa...

eh,hydroxide is not an anion wat

Lol PORKO. I think you have some studying to do man >_< That definition of cation and anion is completely inaccurate.

i wanted to write hydroxide too. but i did something to test for hydroxide but no OH present i think. o yea if its Hydroxide. then It may be Barium Hydroxide right? but Barium hydrixide is colourless. NO white ppl form. so it cant be hydroxide. i added NAOH to barium nitrate. colourless.

Holispirit:Barium nitrate and barium chloride have the same role, finding the sulphate ion. isit? then all soluble barium salts can test for sulphate? then whose the guy who said the teacher said both the answers were carbonate. hah

LOL. frankly speaking i havent started on my sciences, so far only maths and english. =X
then again, at least now i know mah.
Anion=negative
Cation=positive
Will repeat that in my sleep from now on. XD

Feels good to have done a good deed. Heh.

Isn't it a little too late to be studying English? Languages are not something you can chiong last minute.

lol for chem , i put both X & Y as carbonate. The physics part is really irritating. The crocodile clip keep slipping from my hands & it's also kinda confusing. Well, what's past is past. MONDAY ENGLISH PAPER! : D
Need to remember phrases, idioms & stuffs like it. Anyone got any phrases/words/idioms/similies to share?

Vicko got it right.

The classification of +ve ion and -ve ion is flawed.
Because Hydrogen can behave as both. Metaloids like silicon and germanium as well.

Also, it does not stand as it's leaving out complex ions.

English isn't about phrases/words/idioms/similies - No idea why so many of my peers put so much emphasis on bombastic words. Just watch out for sentence structure and grammar; those two will kill you first before you even get the chance to put your cheem words in.
