noob need advice

just got my sx eg-1k and i dont like the sound of the pickup. thinkin of changing the pickup, pick guard and strings, any recomen????? if they do change the pickup, where and how much will it cost...... and thank 4 the help

I'm selling my Dimarzio D sonic DP207 pickup for $120 it's the one john petrucci of dream theater uses just that it's normal spaced. and it's new still in the box never been opened. Installation of pickup is $25-$30

firstly. ask yourself what amp you are using, if youre using a shitty 10 watt amp, changing your pickups would be stupid.

do note that amp>pedals>pickups

yup thats why, your guitar tone would prolly suck because your amp's tone sucks, i guess youre using a sx amp too?

the common misconception is that pickups=tone
i shall reiterate that amp>pedals>pickups.

yeah but my question is, if ur guitars tone is kinda like muffle kinda sound, what makes u think its ur pickups fault?

why blame ur pickups first?

Maybe your technique isn't right? "Muffled" sounds like you might be muting strings you're not supposed to, or fretting right on the frets instead of behind them. Remember, tone is in the fingers too.

cant say, cos i switch between the neck pickup and the brigde pickup and it makes no different, may be i need to adjust the pickup height????

you see those artist that u want to sound like? They have really good amps and do you want to spend that kind of money on the amps? most of them would probably use amp heads with 4X12 cabinet which is about $2000-$3000. If you want yea you can change your pickups. Just go to a guitar shop and try what ever guitar you want then if you like it just ask what pickup is that guitar using then later u get that pickup. Then when you have live gigs and you have to chance to use the amp heads and 4X12 cabinet you will sound more like the artist you want but really u can't sound excetly the same because of the kind of body of the guitar you use, the neck, etc,...
