Nguyen Tuong Van case heats up.

so lets say..singapore minister - 1 million bucks - managing 3 million people
so technically china's president who's has the responsibility of managing 1.2 billion people should get... 400 million bucks a year? going by the population to salary ratio.

as written on TNP today, the thenPM, now SM Goh said, he never liked the word "politician"; he prefers the term "political leaders".

who cares. check out the 500GB harddisk featured on the paper today. omg. :)

still the same..both derived from the word politics..but with the ruling party clinging on to power since independence..i guess he's right by calling himself a political leader..there aint no competition is there?

:D A bunch of veg produced in Singapore cost 100 time that produced in China. Firstly it is not the Chinese who is complaining about a disparity of wages with that of a Singapore counterpart. It is the Singaporeans who are complaining about the minister's pay with themselves. So the discussion is about the ones who complain and the one on the receiving end. So taking the discussion out of contact is like calling all four legged animals rats.

ok so lets compare with a rich country..lets say the us..so bush who manages 200million people should technically get close to 70million bucks? and since the gnp per capita of the us is around 34k and singapore's is around 27k...shouldnt bush be getting more cash since they're supposedly more affluent? why is he only getting a 40k paycheck?

note: i'm stating facts and questioning, not complaining. complaining is when i go like "why the fcuk is mr xxx getting yyy bucks"

Singapore cost of living is getting too high ready ... I know so many ppl who cabot to Australia or Malaysia or someplace else ...

thats not how you determine the wages, try studying economics, wage can be determined either by the MRP theory(which is not practical in this case) or determined by the next best alternative, the person can get that in the private sector. By forgoing their jobs in the private sector, they have incurred an opportunity cost of 2 times their salary.

If you're for money, would you remain in the private sector, or would you go in to the government? obviously, you will remain in the private sector since you can earn 3 times more eh? Its simple economics

if you want me to explain the wage differential in S'pore compared to other countries, pm me. i shant bore the rest with economics stuff.

Live Mammals, Live animals.
I think People who committed crime/s should be given a chance to live again. It'd be much better if they are jailed rather than to Die. Like Shanmugam, who was also hung for drug trafficking, would probably be able to show some support to his 2 14yrs old sons, who are now orphans. He could haven been jailed life long. Sighs..
Nguyen Is still young, im sure he'd be able to contribute much to the society.
Naiveness & ignorance kills. Life's unfair, why make it worst? :(

because the singaporean society would rather use human lives as examples, heartless indifference to the lives of others, and utmost selfishness in dealings with anybody.

"kill him so others wouldn't bring drugs in to ruin our beautiful and perfect country"

"its not OUR fault, its the australian/cambodian/vietnam/thailand's fault. they've NO RIGHT in telling us what we should do"

"we'll have NOT ENOUGH resources if we were to spare all the people we killed and give them life imprisonment. why should we use OUR taxpayers money to sustain a convicted criniminal!"

"those stupid whites have to learn they can't do anything they like in our country. we'll show them who's boss"

"threaten us with economic sanctions and embargoes? LIKE THEY DARE."

"what makes you think the governtment will do that"

you see my friends on soft, generally we singaporeans are a bunch of conceited, holier than thou, 'older, ate more salt than you ate rice' attitude, 'boy, you still young u don't understand' mentality. when we speak, we don't enquire politely. we only argue, present the image of superiority, condemn and put down other people.

the problem my friends, is WELL WITHIN each and everyone of us.

this is singapore :) majulah singapura.

This aspect of the issue has been debated upon in this thread several times already.

My stand still remains. The laws were in place long before he came along. He broke the them, and had the intention of doing so. He had a choice, and he chose this path knowing full well how much trouble he would get into should he be caught, and thus he should be responsible for his own actions.

The death sentence, I daresay, is inevitable right now. But as stars has already mentioned quite a few pages back, perhaps the best solution right now would be to pass the sentence in lieu of his presence, and boot him back to australia to answer to the authorities.

how can anyone having the country in mind be selfish?

the problem my friends, is WELL WITHIN each and everyone of us..

its good to be humble, but not all the time.

IMO, i think the problem in singapore is exaggerated, why havent the australians admitted any responsibilties of any sort?

i guess its so true that Joseph Stalin once said, the death of one is a tragedy, the death of a million is statistic. Millions will die from the those trafficked drugs, they'll just be mere statistics .
