Nguyen Tuong Van case heats up.

Well, Singapore is a very central country in SEA, correct? That's why Sir Stamford Raffles chose to develop it all those years ago...

And due to many airline alliances using Singapore as a transit point, invariably traffickers have to come through here to make it to their destination, wherever it may be.

So, you could say that if Singapore laws are harsh on drug traffickers, we're not only protecting Singapore from these drugs, but helping to keep the region somewhat cleaner as well.

If all countries were so strict on drugs, and not let them off with just a slap on the wrist and a coupla months in the slammer, I think we'd find that drugs won't be so easily available.

"Don't try to smuggle drugs into Singapore, if you get caught YOU DIE!!!"

what better warning is there?

And if you decide not to heed the several warnings and try it, don't cry when you get busted.

It's exactly what they teach you in the army... do what you want, but just don't get caught.

You f*ck with the tiger, boy... you get bit.

its probably the guitar lah, they'll think u have a bomb inside the case. :?

anyway detroit_red, im sorry if u feel discriminated against, i guess if u happen to look like a "typical terrorist" that we see in the papers, then they'll get paranoid and check u. Just like when i wear my knee length pants and slippers and go to peninsula/exelsior, i get totally different service altogether...YES, FROM EVERY SINGLE SHOP there...totally different shopping experience. ok, sorry for digressing, so my point is, looks do matter in this world... :?

tis why i always tie my hair back and dress like a mommy's boy when i'm clearing customs with bags loaded with stuff.

in less than 3 hours time the platform door will spring open and hopefully this will be the end of all the bitching and whining.

i wonder what if things had been the other way around.

what if a singaporean had smuggled drugs into australia and he gets caught.
whats gonna happen to him?

eh wait a min.
dats not possible.
he wouldnt even be able to clear the singapore customs.
he'll prob still be hanged here.

Yes, he is.

Unless he was secretly *smuggled* into Australia.

Poor guy... I hope he finds eternal rest, wherever he may be.

The government let his family hug him? Thank God. can you imagine--that mother's anguish when her son dies and she didn't even get to have him in her arms one last time. I never knew that there is this rule on death row, that prisoners on death row are not allowed to have physical contact with their families.
oh well. with his death effectively comes the end of all this 'bitching and whining' as unsane put it. the whole incident definitely changed my perspective and opinion on the death sentence.

Oh. (I'm not in Singapore now, didn't keep up with the news so I didn't know.) What's the big fuss then? All he did was hold his mum's hand. She didn't slip him anything that would allow him to escape or whatever. *sigh* oh well. it's all over. no point kicking up an argument again.
