Nguyen Tuong Van case heats up.

because frm past experiences, the huggin makes it even more traumatising for the family. may Van rest in peace. n may he be an example to all drug carriers out there.

Even though im Australian, I am behind the S'pore govt. I've said it in other forums.

He knew the consequences, he pays the price. if he got let off, what sort of image is that going to portray to the rest of the world? singapore can be pushed around and influenced by other countries?

We can't let people like this get away with these things. He made the mistake, he pays the price.

The australian government should stop having a cry and instead increase awareness, as should other countries around the world.

There ought to be such a thing as second chances. Isn't it why there's jail, why there's 'reformation' programmes?

I think they should change it.

But in this case yes he knew the consequences, and he was unlucky. I'd wish he could have a second chance. RIP.

He was actually caught a few years ago, but nobody made a hoohaa then. It's jus the media hyping it up now.

Think about this: The Australians probably has no qualms if the person that was hanged was the guy who bombed bali and killed alot of australians. And they won't called watever gov that carried out the sentence barbaric.

In this drugs case, theyhave qualms about a guy who smuggles drugs and destroy the lives of alot of people. And they called this barbaric. The amount of drugs he carried 396.2g of pure heroin was enough for 26,000 doses (according to the Straits Times). That means 26k lives would have been destroyed.

The people who are angry with spore, u cant blame them, they are jus being misled and is havin a knee jerk reaction to this whole matter

The reason why Spore has such a tough stance is that our geographical position make us a sort of a "gateway" to Asia. And would be smugglers would probably used us as a "stopover", if there weren't such strict laws to deter them. Spore cant take second chances in this type of matter, our reputation is at stake.

But wat disturbs me is that i saw pics of people commenmarating that guy and laying flowers for him. I noe we should sympathise with his family. But Don they know that wat he has done (drug smuggling) is wrong in the first place? They are like treating him like a great person or something.

if there's a jail or 'reformation' programmes for drug trafficking,
more people will try their luck with the law !!!

The law draws a line where reformation stops and capital punishment comes into play. Of course one can argue both sides, having only reformation can lead people to think that it is okay to break the law since you will be given second chances, or it can also be debated that these second chances will convert criminals back into law-abiding citizens. But both are not realistic, in this world there will be both cases happening. So would you rather take a gambit and allow reformation for offences, both minor and major, or not take the risk and just implement a strict code of capital punishment for major crimes? Obviously Singapore chose the latter, it deems it as the more realistic route, and comparing Singapore with other countries, you'd see that drug abuse is much less common, so put two and two together yourself.

Hey, do you guys know thqat putfile.com now disallows downloads from Singapore computers because of this case?. Thats what I heard from my bro. Found them immature if its true....

its better to settle with your own problems.
to those people i debated with. no hard feelings.

but its better for us to keep with our own sides.

mero and wang, you stick your side

and i'll stick to mine.

this is a music forum and besides, the man is dead anyway, why waste current over him or s'pore law.

wang, if u wanna be a patriot. go ahead.
for me i dont. i prefer being a freeman. though i am born in spore. i would prefer other places. thats my opinion. up to u to decide anything for urself.

We've always been open to civilised discussions, as long as there are legitimate reasons behind them.

the man has been hung, justice has been done. period. if some people wanna continue their childish actions then let them go ahead but lets not turn this into a singapore vs australia or singapore anti-death penalty camp vs singapore pro-death penalty camp battle. its good to have some political awareness but when over-involvement to the point of political unethicity(media hype and governmental encouragement and stirring up of right wing nationalistic feelings on both sides) is a pretty screwed up thing.

I got an sms from someone in Australia as a joke "Hey mum and dad, i'm going to be HANGING around in singapore for xmas" and another one "We are appaled at singapore...becuase they did not televise the hanging" just remember these are jokes and we australians are not people who go around killing each other.

hey guys i came across a few singaporean freedom blogs recently and saw the other side of the story. we have been so conditioned to be fed what to think by our biased local media. why dont we keep an open mind and see what the other side has to say and make up our own minds. only then would we be able to come up wid truely intelligent and informed conclusions. i'm sure we are good enough for that. =)
